Trumpet resistor upgrades

ANyone try upgrading the 220 ohm coupling resistors in the Trumpet. I was thinking of try nude Vishay S102s. In my past comparisons with HOLCOs the Vishays were significantly less edgy and more transparant.

I am currently ordering parts and pieces for the Clarinet line stage.  I plan to evaluate this and then decide if I should go back and redress the coupling resistors on the Cornet2.

My plans are to use Dynamicap 1.0 uf caps and Russian PIO 0.10uf caps on the 47uf 450 bypass stage.  I am using all Mills on the power supply and S102s in the signal coupling areas.  I am using Kiwamis on the grids.

I am using Panasonic TSHA for the heater supply caps and Panasonic ED for the final B+ 47uf 450V piece.  I toyed with the Unlytic 50uf 1000v piece sold by PartsConnexion but it is a bit pricey at 45 dollars a piece.

I should have all the parts within two weeks and will let you know how it sounds.  I am after fast, detailed and transparent sound to go along with that gorgeous SET sound of tubes.  I think this combination will work very well.

Just these specialty parts amount to about 375 dollars.  The total build will be about 875 dollars for the Clarinet as I am totalling the bill.

I will let you know how it works out in real life.  I can vouch that the S102's are superb resistors for small signals.  I don't think there is a resistor on the planet that measures lower noise.

Cheers!

sounds good. I used a paralleled pair of unlytics in rebuilding my Cary 300 SEI LX20 and they are a major upgrade from the usual electrolytics. You can check out my mod in my system on Audiogon under this same user name if you like. Parts Connexion just finished a 15% sale a couple days ago. next time...
