Here ya go Wolf!

I’m not objective about this little flick at all.  I flat out love it and recommend it heartfully.   Perhaps, you, too, have a favorite small gem like this.  It’s a black comedy with few overt laughs, rather, its humor is embedded in the many colorful succinct lines spoken by as motley a bunch of characters as you’ve ever run across.  My favorite is Sugar Bear (“Hey man, you gonna finish those hash browns?”).  This movie is so unambitious and the actors so transparent it’s refreshing.  Ain’t no Russell Crowe’s here.  Every actor is down for his or her part.  Andre Braugher, Rebecca De Mornay, Michael Jai White, and Alec Baldwin.  Baldwin plays a professional thief just as matter of factly as the movie who runs afoul of a minor gangster in Detroit.  Or, rather, they run afoul of him.  And he’s a vinyl collector (a little Swingle Singers, a little Monk), too boot, who brushes his dog’s teeth.  I’ll stop here.  It’s got plot, humor, perfect pace.  It gets better every time I see it there is so much richness in there.  “Thick As Thieves”.  Maybe hard to find but well worth it.  See if you don’t agree.

The first time I saw this guy in a movie I knew he was going to be an international star.  That movie was The Dancer Upstairs about a thoughtful lead investigator in an anti-terrorist unit somewhere in South America and was directed by John Malkovich.  After you've seen Bardem in the Coen Bros latest, rent this movie and see how fine of an actor this guy is.  The Coen Bros surely saw it.  It's very good, too.
