MEMO: TO ALL BRYSTON CUSTOMERS
SUBJECT: BRYSTON 28B-SST - BEST of 2007

November 2007,

Hi All,

Please find below a link to the online magazine 6 MOONS.COM

http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/bo2007/john.html

Every year each reviewer is asked to submit their Favorite Discoveries of 2007. John Potis is currently working on a 28B SST review but decided to place them in this year’s favorite finds because as he stated to me – “I couldn't see making these amps wait till next year for recognition!”

Excellent. I absolutely love big, beastly amps that can sound as delicate their low power counterparts.

Hi All,

Please see below a link to a fantastic review on the Bryston 28B SST Mono Amplifier by online magazine Sixmoons.com.

http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/bryston/28.html

AS a preview here is the conclusion of the reviewer Mr. John Potis

“Conclusion:
My old wrestling coach used to say, there's never been a horse that couldn't be rode or a rider that couldn't be throwed. The Bryston 28B amplifier is indeed a horse of another color and may just be the exception that proves the rule. These amps are well nigh unshakable. If you thought solid-state meant cold, thin and sterile, forget it. If you thought only tubes could be warm, smooth and involving, the 28B-SSTs will have you reexamining all your preconceptions. If you thought muscle amps are graceless ruffians by definition, you must hear these. Everything about these amplifiers screams musical satisfaction. From the sculpted rack handles that are so easy on the hands to the heat sinks that are without a sharp edge to everything about how they perform; these amplifiers exude superiority and refinement. Yeah, they're big. They're heavy. They'll heat up a small room. But - if you're looking for just one amplifier that'll just about do it all no matter the music, the speakers or your proclivities for specific output devices... look no further. The Bryston 28B-SSTs are exceptional amplifiers. If I had the means, they would not be going back. For first-watt-to-last excellence in the reference muscle amplifier category, the Bryston 28B-SST amplifiers are my no-brainer recommendation of the year as well as my top pick for personal Favorite Discoveries of 2007. They're also Blue Moon award winners.”

Hi,

Are the 28B's a lot better in terms of sound than the 7B's?
I was going to buy 3 power amps to feed my three PMC IB2 frontal channels, but I'm doubting between 7B and 28B. I could do an extra economical effort if the difference is justified.
Is it too much the 28B for the IB2? These amps are the top of the Bryston range, while IB2 are not the top of PMC. In terms of power, no doubt the 7B is enough for the IB2, but in terms of sound quality and finesse is there a big gap between these two amps?
Will the bass be better controlled with the 28B? I found sometimes in my room an excess of bass.

thanks.

Hi Hify,

The 7B SST's C-Series with the new output circuit will come very close in performance to the 28B's.  The 7B sounds a little leaner through the mid-bass.

The IB2/7B combination is superb and unless you feel you need the extra power I would go with the 7Bs.

clicking on the 'features' tab on the 28b on bryston's website connects me to the 14B instead; think the link needs to be rectified.
