More memory?

Samsung has now made the 8 Gigabyte chip.
http://www.technewsworld.com/story/56242.html
That means you can get 16x8 = 128 Gigabyte memory on one module!

Wow, now we should be able to get laptops soon that has no moving parts!
Or think about the possibilities for small music devices and high resolution files!!!

I'm thinking discs that look like the old atrac discs of the 90's and with say 24 gigs?
You know, the minidisc!

They are talking about selling songs on smaller usb stick these days, and they do this already!
Perhaps soon we will se an increase in file quality as well!
Someone is bound to get that idea eventually ...
And for computers this must be good news! You can never have enough ram!
However, the speed of the new chip is only 52MB/s so far.

Imperial,

IBM labs has developed the ability to store and read memory in a vertical orientation vs. the horizontal orientation in use now. Essentially taking a record that is laid out horizontally and flipping it on end. There is a link on the Ray Kurzweil site with more detail.  One outcome of vertical memory orientation is that it will be very possible to buy a laptop with a terabyte hard drive.

Yup, and now they are close on making the one terabyte usb stick.
That is, what used to be a one Gigabyte usb stick willl soon have 1000 gigagyte of storage capacity..
This is almost incredible!!!
