New Lines and New Spectron offering
« on: 10 Sep 2003, 12:04 am »
Just a quick note to say I recently aquired a couple new lines:

1) I offer all BPT (Balanced Power Technologies) Products
2) I have Marchand Products (Quality x-overs and such)
3) I have Rogue Audio Tubed Products (for my clients only)
4) I have Spectron Electronics and AMPs

And Spectron is introducing a new amp to supercede the Musician II.  It is called the Musician III and will have a new "look" and RCA and balanced inputs with remote controlled gain capability.

I also have a closeout special on the Musician II (please contact me for details)

Congrats on the new lines! I own a Rogue Magnum 99 and love it. Mark is great to deal with and you'll enjoy all of his offerings.

John, is the Musician III only different from the II in the above details or are
there more circuitry changes? Will it still offer the direct digital input?  I guess
I don't understand why someone would want remote gain control on their
analog XLR and RCA's since those would usually come from a preamp anyway?
(or maybe the idea is that the preamp might not have remote ability so this might
appeal to lazy people that want to tweak the gain sitting down).  If that's all that changed
I guess I'd just go for the MII which being in close out would go a lot cheaper...

Hi Mark,

It is my understanding that all previous circuitry is the same, only the faceplate, inputs and remote have been added.

Sonically it will sound the same.

As far as the remote gain, and switching; some don't like to use a preamp and this allows that, as well as the convienence of having remote volume.

Having Balanced and RCA switching would allow for a phono (w/phono preamp) through the RCA, and High End CDP via the Balanced inputs.

List on the new Musician III is $3999. (I offer special courtesy pricing to AudioCircle members)

And if you are thinking of the Musician II don't wait!!  I think there are only a couple left.  The M III is due out in October (late).

carver vs spectron

I was just reading about the Carver ZR1600 amp which
retails at about 1200.00 making it 2300.00 less than the
Spectron Musician II. The Carver is class T using the tripath
stuff but it's a bit less in power at 350 W/ch at 8ohm then
the Spectron with 500 W/ch into 8ohm.

Does anyone know why the Spectron is so much more

expensive? The only feature I don't see with the Carver that
the Spectron has is the remote feedback cable feature.
I'm trying to decide what to go with for a amp. In digital amps
we have Bel Canto, Spectron, Carver, and Sony (AVD-C70ES
which is a lower power SACD/CD/ digital amp receiver).
