Hi all,

have not been posting for a while, do pop in quite regularly to read whats happening in the Aksa camp, still loving my Aksa everyday.

just wondering if they are ok for size etc

Hi George,

I use these enclosures for my AKSA 55 amps, though I use the 3U size (HB-5130). I have built a couple of other amps in the 2U size (HB-5125) and I'm sure you could squeeze an AKSA into one. The limiting factor is the height of the AKSA PSU with wires protruding at the top.

I like these enclosures because to front, back, top and BOTTOM panels are removable. This allows you to get access to the bottom of the PCB without removing it from the enclosure. During construction, the 2 side panels are held together by a frame of sorts, so the panels don't get scratched or get in the way.

There are quite plain to look at, nothing special, but better than some I have used. The front and back panels are aluminium, so cutting holes is easy. The side panels are steel, so cutting them is more difficult. I imagine a AKSA 100 will have the 2 heatsinks on the sides rather than the back like my AKSA 55.

The enamel coating on the panels is quite thick which causes the panels to be insulated from each other. So a little care is required to ensure all metals parts are connected to the safety earth.

If you can get a Electus Distribution account you can get these enclosures (any Jaycar stuff) at greatly reduced prices, usually 30% to 40% off.

Altronics have a similar case but with a nicer anodised front panel. H5038 (2U) H5039 (3U). I tend to use the 3U as I like room above power supply wiring.... for my 55N, 55N+, LF55.

I've seen H5047 used for an AKSA 100N+ with 12 caps on the PS and looked ideal for the installation.

I haven't built an AKSA 100, only a couple of AKSA 55's, both in 3U enclosures, an easy fit. I have seen pictures of people using 2U enclosures though, so it can be done.

Electus Distribution is the wholesaler for Jaycar (and others?), if you can find a ABN then you can get an account.

As Peter says, the Altronics version looks slightly better, but I don't think it's quite the equivalent, being completely stamped panels without the rails. It's probably best to have a close look at both. The Altronics enclosures are usually black where the Jaycar one is dark grey.

The Jaycar enclosures have their vents at the front and back, where the Altronics ones have the vents on the left and right.

My AKSA 55 fit easily in the Jaycar 2U rack, with the heatsink mounted near the front directly inline with the ventilation holes in the top and bottom covers.  Like Greg says, the main downside to these enclosures is that the enamel is very thick which means the panels insulate from each other.  They're also not the nicest looking, but they do the job well enough
