A friend of mine shared this idea with me - buy a couple of these from Ikea (link below), saw off 2 legs, stain or paint the solid wood to your liking, cut 2 holes, put in the drivers - voila - instant OB baffles - They look quite solid, the dimensions are OK, stability should be OK.  Has anyone tried this before?

Don't think you would need to saw....you have to assemble it...legs are off already.

So....$80.00 for two tables....isn't the raw wood cheaper ?

These soundpads are $19 peel and stick drivers.  Reportedly the 12 inch by 18 inch (rough dimensions) flat shipping boxes work about the best and sound better than you'd ever imagine.

If you are going to IKEA anyway, you can purchase their wooden kitchen counter top material.  It's 2 feet wide, and available in lengths up to 8 feet.  Then you don't have to hide the holes where the legs would screw in.  I think some of the material is nearly 1 1/2 " thick - so it's plenty solid.

I found a 4' X 6' Maple butcher block kitchen table at the local charity store. They didn't have room left inside to store it. So I got it free!!

Having looked at the IKEA photo, can we assume that the horizontally running brace supports are either 1) removable or 2) not going to affect the sound waves negatively?

The dimensions do look good.

I just might use this for my currently sitting in the closet B200 drivers.

Note also that only the top pair of legs need be removed. The bottom pair can be shortened and used as a means to allow the baffle to lean back a bit.

Hi Seminarian ~

Go ahead and get your "sleeping" B200's up and playing... if you have an amp and preamp that have
a particularly deep frequency range together, that will help the B200's to traverse their
bottom end roll-off. A bass tone control will also solve any bass-shy issues the B200 have in OB...
as will active EQ.

The amp and preamp I am using bring the B200's into the 40Hz range minus a few db's... quite
nice... let the B200's break-in for 200 hours.

There is magic in those speakers that should reveal just how overpriced a great many very expensive
drivers designed for OB really are.

I bought a pair of those last year.  Stuck them on all sorts of things:
Carboard boxes, foamcore, matteboard, Plexiglas, glass, wood, Masonite - they universally sounded awful.  And put out very little sound, which at least was a good thing.

NXT has a ways to go, if the Soundpads are any indication.
