SOLD: Crown K1 - great condition - only $495
« on: 5 Oct 2007, 11:38 pm »
Yeahhh....  so this is my first post and I'm here to sell something....

Well hopefully someone who really needs /wants this item gets ahold of it at a great price.

Anyway, not sure what to say about the Amp.  I'm sure most people who are on these forums are quite aware of the performance available from a K1.  [EDIT: 495] Bucks and buyer pays shipping.

If anyone is wondering, "hey, how can I trust this yahoo??  This is his only post."  This is the best evidence I can give to my online trust-worthiness... http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=tronsr71&ftab=AllFeedback

Somebody's gotta snag this.  GREAT sub amp.  Plus, the K series is now discontinued.

You got a steal.  The K Series has been a standard for sub amps in the home theater world where you need the high power of a pro amp but in a fanless design.  Too bad they discontinued them.

Crown must have come along way since the 70's early 80's.  I owned a DC300A and for a short while before getting into highend.  A few years later a recording engineer got into a debate with me about Crown amps, so we settled the issue by plugging a modified Sumo 9 into his system.  He wrote a check on the spot for the Sumo with my table and arm.  Back in those days people put a lot of stock into specs like THD and IMD.  It was a mindless numbers game...

Well, personally, it's not something I'd use as the main amp in my 2 channel system.  As a PA amp or as a subwoofer amp, it's great.

I'll be using this amp to drive these two exotic subs built by Christof.  :thumb:

It's gonna rock the house.  :banana piano:

Since this amp is sold, some comments about these amps...

The Crown K series is the bomb for a sub amp.  It has no fans!  It also is a bit more beefy that most plate amps.  Nowadays there are a number of sub eq and xo options that are inexpensive and effective.  Our own Kevin @ DIY cable offers the woofer widget.  I am not 100% sure all the features and how it works as I have a Behringer feedback destroyer for that purpose, but seems like a good and user friendly solution (the behr has a steep learning curve, but cheap and effective).

I look at pro audio amps as the best long term sub solution.  You can change your subs without having to change over all the hardware with it.  PA amps should easily outperform a plate amp and are much more bullet proof.

Christof's sub boxes are something quite unique and special, which is another point in favor in doing the seperated solution.  Plus, when you put it all together yourself you are more inclined to spend the money on a better driver which makes a big difference.

Just points to consider when sub shopping.

Good luck!
