Hi All,
I am posting this here before AG because of a rather unique offer that I'd like my AC friends to have the first opportunity to jump on. This is an interesting sale of a terrific sounding pair 300B monoblock amplifiers handbuilt by Larry D. Moore of Ultra Fi.
Each monoblock uses one 300B, one 6SN7 and two diode damper tubes. They feature cardas RCA jacks and speaker binding posts. Each has an IEC power inlet and on/off switch on the rear and a hum pot on the top. They use James output transformers, Mil-spec power transformers, hammond chokes and filament transformers as well as Panasonic and Angela PIO capacitors. They were expertly voiced and hand assembled on Welborne walnut chassis'. In short, they are very fine sounding 300B amplifiers with excellent extension and bass due to a SS rectification.
I am seeking their sale to raise cash to buy a much more expensive 845 amp from Larry Moore. Yes, these amps are really sweet, but they are a bargain price and here is why; these two amps were cosmetically damaged in transit by "*ED *X".
Here is their story in short:
I purchased these amps from Larry Moore a couple of years ago for $2,200.00. This price included a pair of Sovtek 300B tubes and the 4 required diode dampeners tubes (NO 6SN7 tubes were supplied). When I received them, I was having a bit more hum than I wanted so I packed them up to send them back to Larry for the installation of hum pots. During transit to Mr. Moore, they were drop kicked by FX and never even made it to their final destination. Fx never paid me for any damages.
I will not pull punches, the amp's chassis were heavily damaged. The top plates were badly bent in places and some pulled out the chassis screws . One of the chokes came loose inside and scarred things up a bit, but there was no damage (other than cosmetic) to any of the components of either amp. Now here is the good news. Nothing was damaged electrically and severe cosmetic damage was limited to the chassis and top plates. There are scrapes and scars on a few internal items and a couple of minor scrapes on the trannies. All items were carefully and correctly reinstalled by yours truly and the hum pots added per Larry Moore's direction. Both amps play beautifully and with the addition of the hum pots are very quiet on my 96db speakers. I have had zero funtional issues in over a year of use. Since I have been using other 300B tubes, the Sovtek's have a couple hours on them at most--basically new.
Most here will likely balk at checking these amps out, but they are useable in their current condition (ugly perhaps, but sounding gloriously 300B!) and it would be a fairly simple job for a DIY-type to rebuild them into new chassis'. The bottom line is this: if you hide them, you'll think you got a bargain!

I am asking $1000 for the pair, including the pair of Sovtek 300B's and four dampener tubes (6SN7 input tubes are NOT included). I will include shipping to the lower 48 states via USPS. I will make certain they are boxed and packed for safe delivery and guarantee them not to be DOA. However due to the condition of the chassis's, a Local sale would be prefered and I will be glad to make delivery arrangements. Pictures (which quite clearly show the damage) are available upon request.
Thanks,
Gary
