FS: Dodd Battery Preamp

Here it is, the one everyone is talking about. I planned on this being the LAST preamp I would ever buy, and it probably will be sometime down the road. It pains me to sell it, but some unexpected expenses have arisen, so it needs to find a new home. As soon as things settle, I'll be purchasing another one. You haven't heard a black background, until you hear this preamp.

This is a continuously running battery preamp. It uses two banks of batteries and a smart charger. Tube compliment is a pair of 6DJ8 - I have some JAN 6922 installed currently, and that is what the preamp will ship with.

RARE Leopard wood finish. Gary only made two preamps in Leopard wood, and this is one of them. This is a finish that will not be made available again.

The preamp is in immaculate condition. I hate to use the word mint to describe anything that isn't in a factory sealed box - but this one really is mint. Remote and manual included - I'll head over to Gary's house and get a box for it this week - rest assured it will be packed to arrive alive, this isn't my first time to the audio rodeo.

Any questions, email me. Paypal can be discussed - checks or money orders preferred. Local DFW area pickup is welcomed and encouraged. Feedback as 'Russman' on Audiogon, and 'Russman14' on ebay. I'm not interested in checks from Royalty in Nigeria, or trades for svhs players etc.

Currently listed on Agon, Free shipping for AC members.  $2350

Being poor is so depressing.

Maybe you are looking for a dog?
<===Like this one?

I've got a wife too, but she's a little surly.

Russ may not go for it but you have nothing to lose- offer half up front and half in 3 months. You get the preamp and he gets the sale.
BTW these really are insanely great preamps.  I absolutely love mine.

Is there a review anywhere or what have others compared this to?  I've got a deHavilland ultraverve now that I'm VERY happy with but this little guy has always piqued my interest a bit...

There are a few reviews out there, Danny has done a writeup, as have some other members.

As of now, sale is pending to an Audio Circle member!

I owned the UV a while ago, and it was a nice preamp, especially when using NOS 6SN7s.  I subsequently bought the Modwright, and then I ended up with the Dodd battery preamp.  Each step, imo, was a significant upgrade.  If you are looking for the classic tube sound, more laid back, stick with the UV....it comes closest.  If you are looking for a preamp that sounds more live and dynamic, with a blacker background, and a superbly 3-D soundstage, then upgrade to the Dodd battery preamp.

I have mine mated with $15k amps, and despite the cost mismatch, it does such a fantastic job that I have no ambition for listening to other preamps.

JMHO, of course, nothing more, nothing less.
