Best way to get teres?
« on: 3 Sep 2003, 03:40 pm »
Hi All

Ive been pondering over a Teres for quite a while now, and researching DIY TT's.
The Teres components seem to offer the best quality for cost as far as i can see. So i reckon its the way forward.
One problem i have is i would need to get it shipped to the UK, although shipping costs are reasonable, our countries import tax/VAT is not
I recently recieved a cornet phono amp PCB and got charged nearly another quarter of the cost again by our wonderful c ustoms guys :x

So i would like to get a Teres motor and bearing, although i would like to purchase the whole lot includeing platter and base i fear the import would be enough to bankrupt our royal fammily!
So does anyone have any experiance of makeing/obtaining an alternative platter and base for a Teres?
Any ideas or pointers would be great :)

I made a base but never finished it before I moved overseas and didn't ship it... The base is not that hard to make, however the platter would be much more difficult, I think.

Aren't TTs way cheaper in the UK? I seem to recall the price difference between the UK and elsewhere on Regas and Notts was... ah, substantial.

Don't you have to pay VAT on anything bought in Europe?

yup we pay VAT, even on imported items, hence i dont want to buy the full kit
But the teres bearing and motor seem to offer a quality that is worth paying for

penance,
Check out Origin Live (www.originlive.com). They offer TT kits and are based in the UK. If they don't have it, maybe they'll help you find it .
