Finally the time has come for me to put these wonderful speakers on sale.  :(
I promised myself that they'll never go on sale, but OB-5 is getting ready to take its place, and so this needs to go.

I bought these from a local ACer in raw MDF cabinets last year. I tried my hand at veneering on them, and they didn't turn out all that well. The cabinets were initially built for spray painting, and so the edges were all rounded over. I tried to veneer them in walnut, but they turned out just okay. The edges are exposed as the were rounded , and the cabinets are finished it with shellac. But from a distance, they look fine. The cabinets by themselves are solid, and were built by a professional cabinet builder. The speakers do have the soniccap upgrade. The bases have dayton spikes installed.
Speakers are well broken in, and sound absolutely wonderful. I used these with a variety of amplifiers, and they always sounded wonderful. Lately, i've paired them with odyssey khartago/candela.

Asking $400.00, local buyer only for i do not have boxes.

SOLD!!!!

Great deal! Prebuilt for the price of the kit. Someone needs to snap this up.  The AV-3 is an overachiever anyway, so this is really a bargain.  Fortunately for me, I already have a set.

It would not be difficult to route a slot in that leading edge and inlay a contrasting strip along the edges.  It would be an easy dress up to a problem in the finishing. Blond oak would be striking.

Man that's quite a deal!  On picture, they sure don't look as bas as you describe them.  I have A/V-3 that I spent a year building, if I had to let them go for $400, I think I would cry for another year!  :green:  Anyway, for those who have never heard the A/V-3, believe me, those are no $400 speakers, I've shopped extensively for speakers in the $1500 to $3000 market and the A/V-3 can rival with everything I heard in that price range.

Loft,

I'm curious, what speakers did you audition in the $1500 to $3K range to compare with the AV-3's? I've always been intrigued by the AV-3's as it is a transmision line.

Best,
Anand.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on these speakers, Loft and Clarke.
These are truly wonderful speakers. These were the reason why i was so sluggish about building OB5. I bought the kit almost a year back ... but everytime i heard AV/3, i just did not feel like replacing these.

Someone is going to get a great pair of speakers that they can cherish for a long time to come. That is, if they can overlook the veneering   Like clarke mentioned, its not hard to correct the problem. But I'd rather put my efforts into OB5 than correct the veneering. And from where i sit, the speakers look just fine.

Don't want to hijack the thread too much.  I don't remember exactly all the different model names but here is a quick list of what I remember.  Proac D15, 2 different Totem, one Epos model, Monitor Audio Silver, Opera Superpavarotti, Meadowlark Kestrel2, one JMLab model, two Quad model, maybe a few others I don't remember.  My 3 preferred models were the Proac D15 but I find the A/V-3 has a sweeter sound for mids/voices, the Opera Superpavarotti had super sweet silky mids/voices but A/V-3 has way way better bass and the Meadowlark Kestrel 2 overall very nice but find imaging/soundstage nicer on A/V-3.  Again, take all this with a grain of salt, most of those speakers were auditioned in stores and a while ago but one thing for sure, I am really really satisfied with my A/V-3 and that is not even factoring the fact that I paid way way less money then any of the speakers I listed here.

Man I cannot believe these are still here! Wish I would have run across these a month or two ago and I would have bought them for my parents! :duh: Someone needs to hop on this deal, as it's a steal.

Thanks for the deal, they sound great, and look great (from 8 feet away ).

You have great tast in music, and those Odyssey amps sound great also. Now make some sawdust and get those OB-5s built!
