Microphone callibration???
« on: 16 Sep 2007, 11:04 pm »
Not being quite comfortable with the Radio Shack SPL meter I obtained another with connections for an external microphone. I have a Behringer 8000 microphone which I plan to use with it to measure room responses. My question now becomes how do I know the readings  this microphone is giving me are flat? I have seen references to microphone calibration services.  Is this important to have done, and if so who does it, and roughly what would be the cost???

This was posted in a thread (page 15) on HT Guide:

Just send the Behringer off to Kim Girardin and get it calibrated for about $40 last I heard. Realistically you're looking at $1K+ to get a "good" mic that doesn't need calibration. Most of the cheap ones use the Panasonic capsules just like the Behringer and the Panasonics were good enough for SL's DIY mic so they should be good enough for us too.
