New CDP from CEC, what do you think?

I just noticed this really cool looking CDP from CEC on Audioadvisor.  It looks very nice and I'm thinking of trying it out.  Has anyone on this forum tried any CEC products?  I thought they were known for making belt driven CD transports but don't know much about thier all in one units.   The price, $499, is right.

Here is the link:

Yeah, Psychicanimal has promoted CEC belt drive transports.

But those all cost much more and weigh much more and are top loaders.

I'd guess this is not a belt drive.  Audio Advisor doesn't speak to the matter and it's the only CEC product they carry.

The CEC site (not a very informative place) doesn't mention this player.

Looks pretty sweet for the money.  AA has a pretty good return policy, so you'd only be paying shipping if you don't like it...

J-man,

I too have seen that player at Audio Advisor and find it interesting. Currently I have a CD only system and run my CD player (w/volume control) directly into my Bottlehead Paramours. Since I don't have a pre-amp, I can't use the CEC.

Man, If I only had a pre-amp, I could try the CEC! Man, I should buy a pre-amp so I could try different sources. I wonder if I could find a good pre-amp that would mate well with my Paramours and cost not more than $400?  Wonder where I could find one..........

Do you know anyonw with a good pre-amp for sale?

But seriously, I do find the CEC interesting and A.A. has an excellent return policy (I know, I've used it). Try it. You can only lose a few bucks on shipping.

Enjoy,

TIC

AudioAdvisor went down this path before with CEC, when they a few years back they sold the TL5100z at deep discount of $795 on closeout. I found this out when I was researching the player, and a little over year ago I picked one up used on Audiogon that I am using as a transport (and come to think of it I have never actually checked out as a full CDP). It is easily better than the Pioneer DVD player that it replaced, but the odds are it would be. The DVD was a changer and it always lost synch with my DI/O. I don't know anything about this 3300 unit (belt driven?), but for <$500 on Agon I can vouch for the a TL5100z beng a solid performer as a transport.

btw: what the hell kind of model name is TL5100z ???????? :?: Does that have anything to do with anything?

there should be a thread for the most ridiculous model names out there.
