i saw this on an mcm mailer; it may be of some interest. acoustic research speakers, retail for $399, now $99.

then, when i googled 'em, to see if i could learn anything about 'em, i discovered they're being closed out at several internet stores.  i also found the next model up, retail at $49, for the same $99 price, at j&r music world:

it also seems places like j&r audio discount these even further (as low as $59) on occasion...

The AR speakers you listed are supposed to be pretty good. There was a large thread about them on www.avsforum.com some time back.

For that price how can you go wrong.

I ran a pair of AR 312's as my main speakers for years before I finally upgraded . I still use them in my second system . AR makes excellent speakers , very underrated .

AR has been part of the Audiovox/Jensen group for a few years now

They also own Advent which has been receiving some praise for their excellent performance for cheap $. There is a long runnning thread on www.avsforum as well.
