Free to a good home

Hey guys,
If all goes well, I'll be at Scott's at the end of this month. I had the best of intentions to fix these Yamaha speakers and started a thread a while back regarding parts availability. Still haven't gotten around to it.
Was wondering if anybody wants these Yamaha's I've got. Too many projects in life, don't need another one. Preferably I'd like them to go to a GAS guy since finding appropriate sized boxes and packaging them is something I'd rather not do.
PRICE:
The first one with a cold beer for me at Scott's house.

Bob
EDIT:
- By the way, I have the grill covers and they are in good shape.
- There's four photo's of the speakers on the link I posted above.
- If my price is too high, we can negotiate.

BUMP
to make you look again.
Ok, Ok, Ok..... The price has dropped. No "beer payment" nessesary.
I've never wired these up, but still....It'll break my heart to set them to the curb. They're just so cool looking.

Scott,
Thank you for the invitation. I will check my home and work calendars and see if the people that control my life have anything scheduled for me. i am kind of a lurker but I have been following your group for some time. I would love to attend if I don't have a conflict.

Hi Mark
Looks like Howard may have beatcha' to them.
He's expressed interest in them via email, and had a few questions. No commital yet but it appears he wants them. I've answered his query (yesterday) and haven't heard back yet. He
may
come by Scotts to pick them up????
But you're next in line if Howard decides to pass.

Bob,
I just found out that I have to work this weekend so I will not be able to go to Scott's. I am definitely interested in the Yamaha speakers and would be happy to come by and get them some time at your convenience or meet you some place if that would be more to your liking.

Hey Howard,
Bummer you have to work. Would have been fun to have another new face join in.
You're in luck though. My wife and I were just discussing the annual GAS Christmas Bash. In the next few weeks I'll be tossing some dates out for everybody to choose from in December. The Bash is always loads of fun. You should really try to make that one. Not much critical music listening goes on but there are tons people and even more food and drink. It never fails to be a great time. Be sure to join us for that one.

Scott,
Thank you for the invitation. We are working on our budgeting for 2008 at work and we just found out yesterday that we have to be finished by October 1 not October 10. I hope I can make it.

Howard, just to double check....I don't need to load up the speakers for tonight...right? Just wanted to make sure your compay's budget didn't "get done all by itself".
We never spoke of alternative times and places. Are you going to Defest this year? Or would you rather come by here?

Bob,
I am getting ready to go into work this morning and I will be there until we finish. we have to have everything finished to turn in Monday. To answer your question, no you won't need to load them up tonight. I would like to set up a time/ date with you to come by and pick them up if that is OK with you. I hope to be able to come to the get together in December but I would like to get to work on the speakers before then. I hope everyone has a good time this evening. Thanks.

No problem Howard, I understand. (I'm at work and about to 'clock-in' as well).
Seems your schedule is busier than mine, I let you pick the time.

Hi Bob,
I want to consider an open baffle speaker for my lowthers after hearing yours and Scott's. They deserve to be free them from their enclosures. Know of any designs for my Lowther DX 2s? Needs to stand at least 3 to 5 feet and skinny, no more than 16" wide for the space. Or something shorter that could sit on a stand that is stable, remember I have a one and four year old sons still living at home. thanks, Alex

Alex,
You are in luck. If you contact Turbo, he's dying to build something for somebody (seriously). The are a couple of established designs out there like Dick Olsher's Basszilla. Mine are just a variant of that design.
If you want to go all passive (crossover) design, he'll do a great job designing and voicing it. Plus it will give him a chance to play with some seriously high efficiency drivers. Who knows, maybe after he is done with the design, we can lure him over and have him start practicing the true Black Arts of low power and high efficiency

Hi Alex,
Good to talk to you again, it's been a while.
I highly encourage an OB alignment, but installing a pair of Lowthers in OB would be up Scott's (or....?) alley more than mine. I can help a bit, but my HawthorneAudio 15" 96Db's passive XO'd are a considerably different animal than the Lowthers. Scott and others have already "blazen that trail". If you need some wood working done, I'd be more than happy to 'whip something up' for you. But other than mimicking the baffles that Scott has for his, I wouldn't be doing you justice other than quoting you the basic OB "laws/rules/recommendations".
Unless.......you're in the mood to try some coaxials.....
THEN
I could offer some more assistance. aa
Bob
p.s. After re-reading your first sentence, I got to thinking about what mine sounded like when you last/first heard them.
They sound
SOOOooooo
much better than that day at Alan's house. The drivers are fully broken in, and the baffle construction is WAAAAAY different. The XO, bass, everything is much better. Of course 'dropping them in the middle of the floor' at Alan's wasn't much of a fair test either. My drivers and I have come a long way since then, we're very good friends now.

Hey Alex (again...)
I just noticed on the other GAS thread that you were at Scott's yesterday.
You must have come early and left before I got there. I didn't get there until after 5:00. I missed seeing you
If you'd like to come by for a visit and listen to 'the lastest', let me know. It'd be a much more fair judgement of the drivers than the last time you heard them.

Bob,
Any chance you might be available some time this weekend for me to come by and pick up the Yamaha speakers? My wife is going to be busy and I am committed to doing things to enhance my audio presence. At this time I am wide open for either day. If this weekend is not good, no problem.
