if you change tubes?
I'm asking about the warranty on the component, will that warranty not be honored if you change tubes. How long the tubes are warrantied is unimportant.
Due to the fact I have no experience in the tube world could someone tell me if it is a normal practice to void a warranty on one of their products that people have used different than stock tubes. What I mean is the component warranty, not the tubes warranty.  Referring to my thread in this forum:
"Opinions please on this deal with Audio Connection"
One thing I didn't add as I didn't realize it may be of importance as that the guy was giving me a two year warranty. Now on AA he's replied saying the reason the stock tubes were being sent is because he gave me a warranty.  I plan on calling to clear things up with this company but would like input from here so I have some knowledge of what is the normal business practice regarding warranties and tube component companies. I think it sounds like I can forget about researching any Cary products at this point if that's their stand.  Also I was offered to buy the GE tubes at a price but was not informed that the warranty would not be in effect. Thanks for your help.

IME, most companies will warrant their equipment w/ the exception of the tubes so tube rolling will not void the warranty...

while i couldn't find anything warranty details from Cary's website, this is from Rogue Audio's website.
http://www.rogueaudio.com/Warranty.htm

"...Rogue Audio warrants to the consumer all parts of this product against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of three (3) years from the date of retail purchase. Rogue Audio warrants the vacuum tubes for a period of six (6) months from the date of retail purchase..."

the following is from Audio Research...
http://www.audioresearch.com/warranty.html

"LIMITED WARRANTY
Audio Research warrants the product designated herein to be free of manufacturing defects in material and workmanship, subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth, for a period of three (3) years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser or no later than five (5) years from the date of shipment to the authorized Audio Research dealer, whichever comes first, excepting vacuum tubes which are warranted for 90 days only (See 6)."

Amps always have longer warranties than the tubes that come with them. If a tube goes between the time the tube warrenty runs out and the time the unit warrenty runs out you have to replace the tube so I don't see how that could void anything. Some companies are specific about what type and brands of tubes you can use. A lot of companies advertise that their amps are great for tube rolling. You have to check with the individual company.

My cdp has , or had a seal on the lid in that if you removed it, voided the warranty. I  removed the lid & rolled the tubes after 2 months. I was quite confident that if it worked fine for 2 months, it would continue to so for at least the next 10 months, (the balance of the warranty)_. 16 months later and 6 tube types later and all is well. I agree that the seller was a bit elusive, but as always it's buyer beware. If this pre is really what you want, then the tube compliment should not be a deal breaker in my opinion.
