SP 1.7 issue, Display is fading
« on: 7 Sep 2007, 02:06 am »
Couple of days ago I turned on my preamp and noticed the right half of the display light were dim while the left side was still bright.  The next day more of the display was dim and now all of it is dim.  Has anyone encountered this?  Sound and everything else is fine but the display lights are real dim and can't see it from far away.

Strange coincidence I read this a couple of days ago and now my SP1.7 display has gone completely. I can't read anything at all.

I've tried switching on/off a few times with no luck, the display doesn't show on boot, unless anyone knows of a way I could have accidentally turned the display off looks like it's back to PMC for a repair.

Cheers

Hi James,

Mines going back to PMC next week for them to look at, it's quite difficult adjusting speaker levels etc. without a display!

Thought I'd get it looked at sooner rather than later, only another 17 years of warranty left!

Cheers

Spoke to engineering and they think the only thing that explains it is the display is burned out.  Strange because the display has an expected life span of over 20,000 hours at 1/2 brightness or more.

The fact that you lost the display within a few days is strange.

Hi Tony,

Sorry I should have stated it more clearly.

You can not change the brightness.  I meant the display (like a television) is guaranteed to operate at full brightness then diminishing over time to 1/2 brightness.  After 20,000 hours the brightness should still be 1/2 of the original level.

James

Is the led display covered in the warranty? I know you said it goes to half brightness after 20k hours but mine is not legible from from 9ft away. I have had the SP1.7 for 2 year.

Hi James, sorry to resurrect this thread, PMC replaced my display, however it's now going again. Is there anything I can do about it, or is it back off to PMC to look at? Again it's just getting dimmer and dimmer every day.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin - no I am sorry it will have to go back.  I think we have a new display for the 1.7 which has a much longer life span so have PMC check with Mike Pickett at Bryston to be sure you get the new version.

Mike was quick to issue RMA # to get them fixed.
Thanks.
