Anyone with Philips CD-Pro or CD-Pro2 transport experience?

Hello,

I'm looking to speak with anyone that has worked with the CD-Pro or CD-Pro2 transport mechanism as purchased from www.daisy-laser.nl...specifically working with the clock frequency of the SAA7324 mechanism.  I'm having difficulties for the IC to accept a stable external master clock signal, and am wondering if there is any way possible to do this, even if reprogramming the module is required.  Niko (of Daisy Laser) is either unwilling or unable to provide help with this.

Try posting on DIYAudio.com or check their archives. Several people who post there have built transports utilizing the Philips CDM Pro drives.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I checked the archives, and few of the CD Pro players utilize zero-oversampling in their designs.  Very few of these utilize the I2S data format, and there's no information about clock recovery/substitution.  I'll try posting on DIYAudio.

Thanks for the post.  He did a wonderful job - I completed a very similar design (with a transformer driven gain stage verus tubes), and the results really are fantastic.  However, I believe there is still room for improvement, as his use of the I2S at the D/A stage synchronizes the internal clocks of the TDA 1541a - additionally the (a) version differs from the 1541; I think the latter performs better in a parallel implementation.

However, he used the internal oscillator of the actual transport, which is good but not the most accurate available regarding timing.  I'd like to ideally synchronize the clock of the Pro2 with the 1541 in the native I2S - unfortunately I've been unsuccessful with the Pro2 accepting an external clock source (i.e. Superclock, etc).  The results are already phoenomenal now; after quite a few listening sessions with the player I sold my Wadia 861.  Absolutely no regrets - except for that aluminum remote :).

I know combining extreme detail and liquid smoothness tends to be an oxymoron with compact disc players, but this design is an exception to the rule.

You could aslo try some of the clock gurus such as Elso Kwak and Guido Tent.  I know Guido has a new product coming out that syncs clocks between the transport and an external dac.  Even if the product is not I2S, he might be willing to answer your questions.
