AV-3 precut baffle?
« on: 5 Sep 2007, 11:45 am »
Hi,

I'm contemplating building a pair of AV-3s and I think I'd want to go with the pre-cut baffle/grill combo.  How does the strength of the assembly hold up when using a precut baffle?  I'm curious if I would lose frame strength by using by end glueing two pieces together to form the face piece.  Does that make sense, what I'm saying?

Are there other options available for a professional looking grill installation?

For that matter, what do most nice speakers do so far as grills are concerned?  Do people typically use grills?  Do nice speakers even come with them?

thanks!

No worries. It is stronger where the joint is glued than anywhere else on the MDF.

Not from us. The magnetically held on grills are a great solution. I can't think of a better one.

That varies quite a bit. Most speakers use inexpensive snap in inserts of some kind. Some really high end speakers do not even come with grills at all.

The AV-3 uses pretty durable cones on the drivers, and the tweeter is recessed, so you shouldn't need a grill if you don't want one.  I've been fine without them so far.
