WOW  :o

Those shots turned out way better than I guessed. I see what you mean about 'lines' now. I won't look at a shot the same way again  :thumb:

A unique view of the Redrum

This one is extremely cool...

..and the Blue Room

...loads of cool colored vinyl...Yellow Brick Road on Yellow vinyl

...how about some Stone Temple Pilots of Purple Vinyl

....and a close up of the Music Maker III

...and last but not least, the Odyssey system in the Grape Room

Great shots  :thumb: That really is one heck of a nice lens. I can see that one is going to set me back a few bucks  :?

Hey, I may just6 take you up on the offer for the Altec XO's. Let me finish up the boards and give them a listen, then we can measure them and tweak them into submission  :green: You're right, they do get pretty hard when they get loud. I'm pretty sure they can be tamed. If not completely, I think they can get pretty close.

Hey, I don't know if you saw Alex's post but he is looking for somebody to tackle building him a pair of open baffle Lowther's like I've got (he'll probably do passive XO to a big pro-sound 15). He uses the DX4 which will likely do better with some notching. Could be a fun little project to get your feet wet with some true high efficiency drivers. I've got some ideas on the high efficiency 15's if you're interested.

Scott,

I would also like thank you for allowing me the opportunity to hear the many cool toys you have.  This was truly an eye opening experience for me as a n00b.  It was a pleasure meeting all of the other GAS members who attended.

Thank you!

We got a chance to listen to Chris' new battery power supply. It does 12v or 5v so it can accommodate 12v gear like  Empirical Audio or the 5v of a SB. Very nice, very clean presentation.

Any pics/details on the battery power supply? Thanks...

Hey stlblue,

Chris built the supply in the BPT 1 power conditioner case (I think). It was complete with the CNC milled BPT faceplate and powder coated case. On the back he had dual outlets, one for each voltage, a charge switch and an IEC inlet for 110 volt power. Chris, Ryan, you guys have any pics?

Not sure if Ryan took any pics but it looks essentially just like his conditioners. If I remember right, he said he was recently powering his SB3 for about 7 hours and the 12v battery only lost about 1 volt. He mentioned that you likely wouldn't hear an appreciable degradation in the sound until the battery discharges to about 6 volts or so. Not sure how much time that represents but I'd bet it would be more than a day.

I'm sure Chris will chime in and correct any mis-information I may have just typed. I know he's still trying to figure out where to price it but I'll leave that one for him.

Hey blue, you should have come by over the weekend. We'd have loved to have join in  :thumb:  Plus, you'd have felt right at home with my Altecs  :green:

Scott,
Those are wonderful photos!  I tried to get my audio friends in Jacksonville, and Maryville, Illinois to contact you and come down for a visit, but I guess they had family requirements.  Their loss!
Meanwhile, I was down in Moab, Utah, having a blast with friends mountain biking.  The biking was great, but the cold weather front was fierce for camping, as my heavily staked tent was still blown over while we were away, and my rain fly was ruined.  I think the coyotes are still laughing about that one.
Keep those tunes rolling!

All,

I had a great time. Scott, ultra high marks on the hospitality. Thank your wife for me. Great to meet people who are so dedicated. With all of my exposure to the high end, this was the first time for me hearing Lowthers and 300B's, and such well behaved Altec's! I spent hours listening at home last night, imagining myself hosting a GAS gathering in my new listening room once it is built.

What I find so refreshing is the emphasis placed on how musical a system is and not how much the gear costs! Pretty contrary to what high end is usually about.

The Lowther's, especially in an open baffle are completely different than your typical box speaker. Some really enjoy it like me, to others they could live without them. So they really are an acquired taste. More than anything I guess it all comes down to how you like your music served up. There really is no right or wrong way, just personal preferences. Its all subjective, just like our own tastes in genres of music.

When it comes to the Altec's, they are an experiment in progress. I just got them up and running a few weeks ago after being in storage for a couple of years. I really think the rebuilt crossover with better parts will do good things to the sound. Then hopefully Ryan will step in and do some of his magic, modeling and tweaking the XO to get the best out of them. Should be a fun journey.

What I find so refreshing is the emphasis placed on how musical a system is and not how much the gear costs! Pretty contrary to what high end is usually about.

You're right about that one and I couldn't agree more. Most everybody in the group knows (pretty much) the cost of gear but we don't focus on that at all. Everybody wants to get the most music out of their systems they can. In turn, a bunch of us break out the soldering irons and tools to either build or tweak the heck out of our gear to save some bucks.

The other thing, our gatherings tend to be more about friendship than gear. Its nice being able to hang with guys that have the same interests. Don't get me wrong, gear swapping is fun and its great to hear how different pieces sound in a given system but sometimes that can lead down a path most people don't want to go (criticism). I think most realize audio reproduction is very personal and going back to what I mentioned before, there is no right or wrong, just personal preferences.

I spent hours listening at home last night, imagining myself hosting a GAS gathering in my new listening room once it is built.

OK then, sounds like you just volunteered to host a gathering sometime in the future  :thumb:  Hope all goes well with the building permit review this week.

Hey Lyndon,
Sounds like you had a great time this weekend  :thumb: Be sure to have the local guys contact us. We'd love to have them join the group.

Looking forward to hosting. Also, I just ordered a squeezebox. What a cool convenience device for the music lover.

You're gonna have to post or point us to a listing of when/where your band is playing.  That'd be a great evening get together with spouses (spice?)

Sorry I missed this event, I got called from work on my way to Scott's and had to go in for a call out. Looks like it was fun.
Next time.
I hope

Thanks for the input on the battery supply, Scott. I would have loved to hear it versus your Bolder setup. I'm still in Ohio, but may be home for the holidays, if you guys get toether then.  :D
