Reference Audio Mods performs High Performance modifications and provides New Modified Oppo players with FULL 1 year warranty (entire unit)!! Buy with confidence!!!  Our modifications to the all Oppo units to take them to a completely different level of sound and improving video, embarassing so many $600-$5000+ costing players!!!
It was also mentioned that even the Stock Oppo units is very comparable to the Stock Marantz SA-11S1 (Retail $3499), so there is no doubt that we are providing you a giant killer that will play just about every format (including HDCD). Talk about a complete sleeper! The Player is provided with in its Highly Modified package with the option to upgrade the stock clocking to the acclaimed Audiocom Superclock 4, dedecated power supply, and an industry 1st Cryo treatment to the entire unit after it has been modded.
Highly Recommended to purchase the full modded unit for the best audio and video performance! This price and performance that the Oppo exhibits with our modifications, is going to bring the customer excellent audio and video performance that they have not previously seen or heard in their system, all on a beer budget! It is that good! It will bring you a presentation that rivals some of the most expensive units, and even the best out there will not be night/day better, the Oppo is that good!... for a complete fraction of the price! We have compared it to the stock Marantz SA-11S1, Stock Esoteric DV-50S, Stock Sony SCD-1. All these flagship units sounded flat and dull in comparison. With the RAM Oppo, the resolution was on a much higher level, music sounded in the room with great presence, we had a much larger, wider, deeper soundstage, with exceptional crystal clear vividness in voices and instruments with great seperation of instruments and refinement of brushes and cymbals and great dynamics. We showed off our Oppo DV-970HD fully "Cryomodded" and compared it to the Stock Esoteric UX-1 Limited ($14,000) at RMAF 2006 in Room 1017. Everyone was stunned on how the oppo sounded better than the stock esoteric, considering the rough $12,000 price difference! People stated the Esoteric was restrictive and not as open, whereas the Oppo was more "liquid and engaging" and offering a wider and deeper soundstage. People were flabbergasted that such an inexpensive unit could produce reference level quality sound for a mear fraction of the cost!!! So if you are looking to get extremely high quality sound and the best video on the market, for a beer budget compared to what some people spend on audio, look no further than the Oppo units.

Hi,

We will be in Room 1017 again, come check us out! Look forward to meeting you.

We will be showing the best Sub-$2K player, and best Sub-$6K player solutions we have to offer at this time, sold as New Modified nits, with full 1 year warranty on the entire player (or the person can send in his/hers for the mods if they already own the particular unit) .

For the Sub-$2K level, we will have the hot new fully cryomodified Oppo DV-980HD ($1640 shipped, full 1 year warranty on entire unit), and for the Sub-$6K we will have the "Ultra" Esound CD-E5 ($5995 shipped, Full 1 year warranty on entire unit) (the best non-battery powered redbook cd player we have ever heard), and these two players/pricepoints will be compared to a $40K retail Esoteric P03/D03/G0s stack to show how for a complete fraction of the cost we gain acheive ALOT more performance. We will have those Von Schweikert VR4 SR MKII speakers again if anyone wants to drop in for a listen.

Thanks

I wonder if these Oppo's will sound as good as the modded Marantz 8001 I heard last year at the RMAF. That would be in the RAM room 1017 of course. The Marantz 8001 modded by RAM was "IMPRESSIVE"

                                                             Cheers

Hi Charlie,

Good to hear from you, I remember seeing you there last year.

You might be surprised! This Oppo DV-980 is stunning!  Also, a couple months after the show last year, we revised the SA-8001 mods and also did some other tweaks and now that player is substancially better now, but we dont have it anymore as we have moved into providing the Esounds fully modified with warrantys and it will go much further without complexity. We will have the incredible Ultra Esound CD-E5  you must check out, this player is absolutely killer! Makes you forget about your analog setup and just enjoy the music.

What in God's name could you be doing to this player that could justify that kind of a price increase?

Remember, 86% of the price here is straight 100% on audio/video PERFORMANCE.

For example, If you buy a new $1640 CD or DVD player at a dealer, less than 10% of it is on the actual performance of the unit (meaning ELECTRONICS or Electronic parts), the rest is on manufacturer/distrubutor/dealer markup (HUGE!), advertising , R&D, employee costs, health care, packaging, etc..... so what about the sound or video? The same goes with every other player/pricepoint on the market, regardless of how much it costs! Thats why modifying is the single most cost effective thing you could ever do for your system to get the most performance for the money spent!

DoogieJ-  you do make it sound tempting.  I'm about to get a flat panel widescreen, my first, and the Oppo is my choice of DVD players.  Alas, your revision is out of my budget but I'm pretty sure some other readers will benefit from this information.  Best wishes.  Do you accept standard Oppo's for modfication and if so what is your pricing for that at this time?  Just one last thing . . what is meant by "cryogenic treatment"? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the response.

For your application (large flat panel widescreen), I would choose the DV981HD.

Yes, we accept stock oppos for mods, they are sent in all the time. The mod package is $625 shipped (to any oppo model) and then the upgrades are $295 for Superclock 4, $295 for Superclock 4 Dedicated PSU, and $200 for Cryotreatment to player after its been modified.

Here is the info on "cryogenic treatment":
This mod option is done after the unit has been modified and nothing else is to be soldered or touched internally. The unit is put into a deep freeze cryogenic treatment chamber and the process begins.  This is an industry 1st! We are the only source cryoing players! The result is shocking!! The benefits of cryogenic processing to the modified unit is: relieves stress in all solder connections and wiring connections, lowering the resonant engergies and intermodulation effects they produce, improved conductance of all materials (wires, connectors, solders, etc..), transient response, mechanical damping, improves heat dissapation. What is the sonic effects of this treatment? Heightened and more articulate perception of individual musical timbres and improved resolution and dynamics. Also improves video characteristcs as well. (Improved color saturation, clarity and less grain in the video outputs). Cryogenic treatment to the unit is a permanent process.
