Since I have and Adcom GFA-555 sitting about unused, I was thinking about building a pair of passive subs, but would need an electronic lowpass filter. I'm using ACI passive hi-pass filters on my Merlin TSM-M's and am happy w/ them.

Would an  inexpensive analog Beringher pro sound crossover work very well? (not one of the more expensive DSP versions)

I am using one of the Reckhorn F-1 Xovers to do this, in my main system.  It relieves the OB mains of the bass below 90Hz, and does a decent job of it.

$50 too.

Try Bob at Creative Sound Solutions in BC, he should have a few in stock.

cool, thanks.

Does it matter that this crossover has no phase control? I think I read somewhere that setting the phase is important.

I'm back to being thrifty as I might be a college student again!
