Any “Forbidden Planet” owners here?
« on: 31 Aug 2007, 11:33 pm »

Recently I brought the region 2 version of “Forbidden Planet” (1956) I was a pleased with the visual presented in the (cinemascope) format showing the entire width of the screen. After seeing it many times before on TV where standards fall flat on there face this one was loaded with extras to keep me viewing happily for many late nights. I was especially pleased with the sound mix presented in Dolby 5.1 showed occasional dialogue panning helped to create realism.

The visual effects looked so polished for the time and the “Id” monster the dark side of “Morbius” played by (Walter Pidgeon) mind was terrifying killing those who stand in his way via an invisible and deadly force, his daughter “Altaira” played by such a dish of girl (Anne Francis) has taken such a liking for the crew. Seeing a younger (Leslie Nielsen) who plays “Commander John J. Adams” was different from all those “Naked Gun Police Squad” shows and films.

“Robby” the Robot looks so cool and believable has appeared in a few other films and TV shows like “Columbo” Mind Over Mayhem (1974).

For years I wanted to get my hands on this film long before DVD was a huge hit there was the laserdisc versions, but in this case this one would suffice. So does anyone else own this science fiction classic?

Oh yeah, I've had this one since it first became available. One of my favorite Science Fiction films. And of course it spawned Krell. :)

Hello there. :)

That’s one of the enigmas what does the "Krell" look like I mean I can draw not too well I can picture them as slightly larger heads than ours but what about the body? What does that look like is it very large or do they look similar to us? Maybe the doorways was part of there architectural design culture?

One of my favorites, and have the LD version.

Have been hoping for a "re-make" since it has a great story and the special effects in this are great. aa

Do you think its worthy of re-make I mean with all the re-makes that have come out in past few years some barely 30 years old and for the sakes of improved technologies in visual effects and sound, do you really think it would it would be a tribute to the original. Now that it’s over 51 years old?

Wow I bet that's rare and kinder of trippy with the electronic music. Is it a first edition or a reissue LP?

One could only hope, but it has all the elements that could make an unbleivable remake.

The storyline is superb, the Monster was incredible, the interaction of Morbius, Robbie, the crew, and the female lead makes for high expectations.

Maybe Anthony Hopkins as Morbius, and any number of other actors for the other roles.

On all levels it would be a challenging task, but man what a result, if done well.

(Keanu Reeves) as “Klaatu” now that would be interesting to see and hear the speech at the end as he gets into his flying saucer and flies away. :green:

No Way  :thumb: That one is pretty darned cool, plus thats one I don't have (yet)

Over the years of hitting flea markets, I've picked quite a few bizarre soundtracks.

Heres one you don't see everyday....David Jason playing Richard Diamond PI

If ever you listened to the Dr Demento Show on the radio, you might remember the Lord Winderschmiere bit (a farting contest). This is the album it came from.

Then there are some classics from the 70's

...and a couple from the 60's

...I saved the best for last...

I've got quite a few more, some really off the wall stuff, especially comedy albums. Guess that come from all these years of collecting vinyl.

Oh JBL, yes, that Forbidden Planet is a first issue.  :green:
