I prefer a two way design myself but I also realize there are fine (and bad) examples of all types of speakers.

It seems like an impossible question to answer. For one, it's very subjective and two, it depends on the implementation.

Oh, well then at the moment the most enjoyment I've had out of any speaker type I've owned is my sub-sat combo. The advantage a system like this has is the monitors can be placed for optimal mid range performance and imaging while the sub can be place where it does it's thing best. Small monitors really have a way of disappearing, too. Very hard to beat for imaging. The trouble with such a system is integrating the sub to the satellite but I have a Behringer DEQ2496 which makes it seamless.

What would a Quad ESL be considered as?  a single driver?  Those are superb speakers, my favorite!

A 2 way line array of course. Why, because I haven't heard anything better, that was within my financial means, or for that matter, 2 to 3 times that which I could afford.
