And what formats do you use? SACD?

Are you better off with a dedicated SACD (say) player rather than trying to get a DVD player that does it all?

Reason I ask, I went to buy a DVD player today thinking I would get one that did SACD as well. Couldn't find one with 5.1 output :( -- I did find an older Sony for a great price (DVPS735 for $A500) with 5.1 output, but they seem to have ditched the 5.1 outs these days. So I'm thinking I should get that player and figure on a dedicated M/C player later.

I have the Sony DVPNS-999ES DVD/SACD player. I like it alot   I use the digital coax to transport to my pre amp, & the multichannel out for SACD.

I just bought a Pioneer DV-AX10 last night as it was $5,000 off list price.

It's M/C for both DVD-A & SACD. I've not hooked up the M/C outs yet, and don't know when I will. But I doubt you'd want one of these as they're not easy to find, and generally cost a lot more used than what I paid for my new one last night.

I believe that all of Pioneer's current model SACD/DVD-A players have M/C outs. If you can find one to look at I'd give them a look. Babcock's got a Pioneer DV-45A that he's more than happy with.

I've demo'd a Sony DVPNS-999ES in my setup. It's a damn good DVD video deck, though it's a bit soft compared to the current Pioneer's (DV-47Ai & DV-45A). Or even the older Pioneer's that I had on hand (DV-333, DV-38A, DVL-91, DVL-700). I didn't care for the softer picture myself, but some people don't like the shaprness of the Pioneer's. And the 999ES is built quite well. I didn't really bother with the audio portion of the 999ES when I had it in my system as I was mainly looking for video performance. It's a very good piece I'd say, only it's lacking DVD-A as all Sony's do.

John, I find it rather odd that you seem to be running into SACD decks that aren't M/C. I don't know what all is available in your area, but SACD decks are all pretty much M/C here nowadays. It was the early decks that didn't have M/C capability.

Just found Pioneer Australia's site. You might want to find a DV-655A to look at. There's also the DV-S733A, though I'm not sure why you'd want it over the DV-655A.

Ahhh...you finally pulled the trigger on that bad boy, huh?  I suppose the video end will be worth it, but it's a shame it's going to a guy that'll never own and music to play on it! :P   Oh, except your "Daredevil" sountrack!

Yeah, I like my Pioneer.  I can't say how it stacks up to all the other players as I've only heard a few in my rig, but I'm really happy.  Still, I'm a Denon guy at heart; I only bought the Elite because Denon didn't have a universal yet.  I'll probably end up buying the DVD-2900 eventually.  Nothing wrong with mine, just itchin' to try something "better."

Yeah, I wasn't planning on buying it any time soon. But when my salesman left me a message yesterday (he's got my phone # memorized  ) saying that their AX10's dropped to $999.98. And as they didn't have a whole lot of them left, I had to find the $ and just do it. It wasn't something I could pass up.

Yeah, the video is exceptional. :D I've never seen a picture this good in my setup. I've finally found a player I'm happy with. Awesome picture, and the transport mechanics are dead silent.

What, I don't deserve such a beast as it'll almost be used exclusively for video purposes?

And in case you're wondering, my Daredevil soundtrack is actually listenable now w/out THX post-processing...

Does your new Uber-Machine have a DVI output?

You have a Lowe set that's a few years old, right?  Could you use a DVI output if you had one?

I might have to end up buying the Samung to use as a DVD player and using my Elite just for audio.  The picture is very good, but I doubt it would hang with the new machines with the DVI out.  That should kick the Plus up a notch, I should think.

Okay, I guess you still deserve the video, but you really should see if you can get Daredevil on SACD! :P

Thanks for the feedback :-)

But I'm still confused :-(

The only reference I could find to the DV-655A locally listed it at A$1k. Which kinda indicates to me that I may as well get the video player now and a M/C player later. (I admit I tend to go for the Sonys as I had them before and know that the audio stuff works for me...) I was going to go look at some more players today but went rug shopping instead... you don't wanna know

ANYWAY: are all you M/C dudes using SACD? Or DVD-A?? Do I care about getting both???

Thanks :)

I just ordered two  :D  of their last AX-10's for that price. After reading all the latest " My SACD 1000 just died" posts on AA, maybe it's time to sell mine and try something different before I'm forced to. Stan Warren, here I come.

Multichannel player

I've went with a dedicated player for sacd's (Sony XA777es) and like it a lot, I do have a Technics Dvd-A10 multichannel Dvd-audio player..but use it mostly for movies as I find very few Dvd-audio's I want to buy. After a year with the Sony player I think it's one of the best multichannel players out there..and a good redbook player to boot!!. I've had the Dvd-audio player for about three years and have very little music to play on it.
