Ripper questions
« on: 30 Aug 2007, 06:14 am »
Hi, folks.

I've recently "discovered" the Ripper and think it might be just what I'm looking for...

My wife and I have a couple of hundred LPs that we rarely play, especially since I replaced my amplifier with one that doesn't have a phono stage. So...I need a phono stage. We would also like to rip them to CD for convenience, plus I'm also contemplating building a music server eventually so it would be handy to have them on a hard drive.

So here's my first question: in addition to the digitising to PC stuff, can the Ripper function as a simple phono stage?

I see from the PDFs that the Ripper can be configured for phono or line inputs. We also have a few dozen stereo audio cassettes that I would like to burn to CD...

Thus here's my second question: can the Ripper be configured for both phono and line inputs (by the flick of a switch, say)?

Thanks for any insights,

Martyn

Yes.  The assembled RIPPER comes with phono.  If you DIY, you can build it without the phono section.  Probably hard to make it do both.  The easy way out is to use an iRIAA FILTER in front of the RIPPER when recording cassettes, as they probably aren't of the highest sound quality anyway.

BTW - I just reduced the price of an assembled RIPPER to $349.  Steal!
