Ridge Street Sason LTD Opinions please ...
« on: 25 Aug 2007, 09:45 pm »
Care to comment on this 2 way design

Would it work in a room 11x18
Approx 3 feet from the back walls

My music tastes are pretty much across the board
would the sason sound good with all genre of music ?

The Sason really needs to be brought out into the room a good ways to get it's full benefit of incredible front to back layering of the soundstage.  I don't think your room would allow it to play to it's FULL benefit.  It would still sound very good however.

It does not play the lowest octave, but the range it plays, it plays very well.

The further out the better.  Bringing them out 3' might not show them to be better than many competitors.

The further out you bring them, the better the front to back layering.  They were brought out 10' in my room and sounded pretty good.

They are brought out 15' or more (guessing) in ehiders room and sound GLORIOUS.

They are setup at least 10-14' in Robert Schult's (Ridge Street) listening room and I was amazed.

These are speakers that need to be brought out into the room to get the BEST out of them.

I own them.  They are pictured on my gallery/system front page, etc..  They are incredible speakers from 50hz up, and Rob is absolutely correct.  They need room behind them.  I have them approx 81" out from the front wall currently, although have had them as far out as 90".  My room is 15.25 x 22.75 x 10.  They fill it fine, but require a sub for the lowest octaves.  I dial in a Paradigm Servo 15 using a Velodyne SMS-1 realtime subwoofer EQ (great $500 tool).

Sasons are the most transparent speakers I've ever heard (of course, "not heard" really).  The imaging and soundstage they set up are world class.  As most reviews remind you, they are microscopic in their retrieval capability...so give them a great signal and they will produce glorious sound.  They won't mask your upstream issues, however...nor should they.

I used to set up my speakers visually, but with Sasons I get out the steel tape measure and my laser level and dial them in precisely.  They return the favor.

while i am sure all the accolades about the sason speakers are well-deserved, & i suspect it would sound good in an 11x18 room, it seems these speakers would really be held back in a room that size.  i would suggest saving some serious money & get a pair of proac tablette 8 reference signatures.  at $1800 retail, & occasionally found used for ~$1200, these tiny speakers will rock even in a big room, when used w/subs, & they will be perfect in a smaller room.  incredible soundstaging, detail & dynamics, w/a neutral tonal balance, these excel at everything except the lowest octave.  and, tho only 86db-efficient, i have heard them play plenty loud in the 25wpc triode setting of a manley stingray in a ~14x22x10h room...

No offense, but if the OP had asked: "what are good speakers for an 11 x 18 room?" , he'd have a hundred posts with a hundred speaker pairs recommended, no doubt very good ones.

Edit:  Nevermind, he's opened it up to any speakers......thx

P.S.  My Sasons play well in most genres, but excel out the yinyang in acoustic music, especially smokey jazz.  However, they handle Radiohead pretty well, too, assuming your sub is dialed in nicely.

Ted B I sent you a PM

For the record

I would be open to hearing other suggestions of speakers that would work better in an 11x18 room of the same calibre as the Sasons

Yeah, the Sasons are about 9 ft from the listening position, and 9 ft apart.  It almost qualifies as nearfield, but slightly further.  I toe them to cross slightly in front of me.

If he is asking about Sason speakers, one should assume a much higher budget since the Sason speakers are selling for $7900 + another $700 for the stands.

My budget is Max 9-10k
I would be very happy if I found something in the 5-7k Category that would be equally as good

I looked at the Living Voice OBX  that size would bode well.
I could go a tad larger but not by much.   i'm happy to hear all suggestions within reason
