Question about some switching issues....
« on: 23 Aug 2007, 12:04 am »
Jim or others,

I plan to put four RCA stereo female chassis ins and run each positive to a four position dual pole switch.  Then run its output to a three position double pole switch so I can take the output and then:

1.  feed said signal to the Piccolo and on to the Coronet 2  (LOMC)
2.  float the signal (mute)
3.  feed the signal to the Cornet 2.  (MM)

Do you see any issues with this configuration?   I want to know before I begin this build up if I need to run a more complicated switching scheme.

I will be running very short twisted wires from the RCA's to the switches to reduce EMI from the transformer.

Just make sure everything is very well shielded.  Box, switch, etc.

I may be entirely wrong, but my biggest concern is the line from the Piccolo output to the C2 input.  This will also be junctured with the C2 bypass from the C2/Mute/Piccolo switch and then run to the C2 inputs.  I don't think I can get this line any shorter than about 6-8 inches.  All other leads can be very short.

Would you recommend using an aluminum project box to enclose the switches and the wires so these are shielded to the greatest extent?

I do not know if I should try it bare first, and then add shielding later or build these as modular subchassis and then plug them in and play?

Any suggestions are appreciated.  I am getting excited about getting this unit up and running.  I think the Audio Asylum group will love the results and there seem to be about 10 that are interested in multiple rear input selection and perhaps a built in Piccolo or SUT.

The PICCOLO can drive long cables.

For a box, the type used in the PICCOLO works great.  These are aluminum castings that machine nicely.  Maybe not the prettiest, though.
