Compression and loudness and.....looks like a very interesting article both, text and "multimedia" versions are available (they are not identical, though)

sad... That the music industry is destroying the power of silence for profit. No wonder I get a headache listening to a lot of todays music, and I thought I was getting old. Hehe

By oversimplifying some statemets, it looks that CDs from early to mid 1980s are good (compresion-wise), 1990s are really bad and after 2000 they improved a little. With Vinyl, before 1980 is good, new releases may or may not be (over)compressed.

Yea, I read that. Doesn't sound like things will be changing anytime soon and that's a shame.
