Just got these from an original owner.

Don't know much about them but they seem to sound awesome ........ and THEY ARE BIG!

How can I get a owners sheet or more details about these monsters?

Hope you guys can help ...

Ya mean these?!!

VMPS IIa/R Special Editions.  I owned them for 16 years before my RM/X's.  They were great.  I first heard them at Brian's home in 1987.  I will look for any info/manual but likely gave to new owner (he drove from Baltimore area to Cleveland area to pick them up, back in March '04).

Hi oldskol,

Good to see you have joined the VMPS club.

I think someone posted a "sheet" on this speaker not to long ago.

Maybe a search would bring it up.

Make sure all your PR's and woofer surrounds are in good shape and you should be a happy camper.

Search did not bring up a data sheet or owner's stuff so far.

Previous threads found on repairs and improvements look promising.

Are these monsters all that?

They sound GREAT! aa

Ya, the old school Vimps are fun speakers to listen to, and those (yours) where some real bad asses!

I just setup a pair of the old Supertower/R's I've owned for many years  in my two channel system. I have not listened to them (other than home theater use) for around 5 years....I'm having a "blast" with them.

I think there is an old review of yours in one of the old Mags (Bert White?)....maybe?

Yeah, my best input is this:
* make sure the two passive radiators (top slots) are damped correctly, but not too much.  It's a sliver of putty at a time until it gets too much, then back off a sliver.
* the tweeter and supertweeter attenuator pots on the back are likely a bit off from each other (i.e.  left speaker one might be midway at 12 oclock, the other at 12:30, depending on where they min and max out at), so I would find a 1/4 set of knobs with center markings and then use them for setting levels.  Also, a Radio Shack SPL meter helps to find symmetry between the l and r.
* like most any VMPS design, they love to be toed in to cross in front of the listener by about two feet.  I invested in a $20 laser level and found that toe-in symmetry was incredibly beneficial.  I just set up an album cover or something in the front of the couch/listening seat, then pointed each side of the speaker to point equally.  Symmetry from side walls is important, too.

I just looked through all my stuff but couldn't find the old flysheet.  I'm sure I gave it to the new owner.  I'll ping him if I can find his email.

Hi Oldschool,
I have a pair of these beasts too, bought them in the mid 80s and they are terrific for their age.  Contact Brian about upgrading some of your drivers, especially the 12" and 15"  actives.  I replaced all my 5", 12" and 15" including new vitrified passives.  Wow, did it tighten things up.  Not a cheap upgrade but well worth it in my opinion.  I did have to do some major surgery by decapitating the tops of both boxes to get at the passive above but took the time to reinforce the box while I had it apart.   I doubt I will ever part with mine even when I upgrade to the R40s or 60s, I will use them for rears or woofs.   I will look for my data sheet but fear after 4 moves its a goner.

I sent copies of the cut sheets I had to dubravko... I can't seem to find the files. I don't have the speakers or the cut sheets any more but those speakers may be in the bunch of cut sheets I sent to dubravko. These look awesome and the old VMPS speakers are a killer deal when they become available! I can't say enough about the Tower III's I had if my new listening room was a few feet longer I would have gladly kept them!!!!!! Brian's designs stand the test of time and are already classics that will be good performers for some time to come!

Hello to all,
I wish I received all of those from Matt, but only leaflet in hi-res (still a bit rough), that I have is from ST3.
Only material that I have is still there http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=36581.0, posted by Matt.

We exchanged PM's in which I asked for hi-res scans of everything in February, but I never received anything.

Perhaps Matt will be able to find them again after all, that would be very nice.
