Get it, period. I've had a Nova for about 2 years now, with a Graham 2.2 arm and a Benz Ace high output cartridge. The Nova has the technologhy of the much more expensive Cosmos, made with less exotic materials. Vacuum clamping is a revelation, combined with the Sota Reflex clamp that comes with the table. My non-audiophile (but an aerospace engineer) father watched it spin one day and just said "wow". He wasn't listening, he was just marvelled by the precision of a flat, spinning record. The vacuum system is quiet and fool-proof. And do not dismiss the efficacy of a modern, suspended table.

If you are buying used, make sure the seller packs it properly in the original, SOTA box. SOTA will sell you the correct box, packing materials and instructions for a very reasonable price. Also, SOTA are wonderful to work with on the phone when you have questions.

A SOTA turntable in combo with a record cleaning machine (Nitty Gritty 2.5 FI is my recommendation) will make you realize that CDs were invented for their convenience, not sound. This combo makes your records play wonderfully, with little surface noise.

The arm/cart combo you are considering is well respected on the audio forums and by reviewers. Sounds like a solid package. Get it. :thumb:

I've had my SOTA Star vacuum table for a number of years now, and have been very happy with it. I'm running it with a modified Rega RB-250 and either the Denon DL-110 or the Dynavector DV20XH.  You will be a happy camper. Everything Desertrat58 said was spot on.

In fact, my DV-20XH just came back from what I hope is a serious upgrade- a new ruby cantilever and line contact tip.  I'll be spinning lots of vinyl this weekend...I've got to pick it up at UPS in the AM.  aa

My 24 year old SOTA TT sounds wonderful - Denon 103R cart, RB300 arm. I am very happy with the combo.

Lehmann Black Cube SE. Allows you to dial suitable gain to suit MMs and MCs (even very low ones)!

I'm not very familiar with the Shelter 501, but I think it's around .4mv output. My guess is, it needs 56..maybe 60db of gain, with 100 ohm loading? Something like that.

Depends on your budget; tastes; etc. Tubes? Solid State? Hybrid?
