Quicksilver Mini-mites or Mid-mono. I can't decide
« on: 14 Aug 2007, 07:50 pm »
I am having a hard time making up my mind.  I have 2 sets of speakers: Stirling LS3/5A V2s, Quad 12Ls.  If i get any other speakers, it might be a pair of Quad 22Ls, JMR Cantabiles, or AN Js.  I have small spaces and listen mainly in the near field to small groups (pop, jazz, chamber, folk, blues) with my speakers 6-8 feet apart.  Big speakers won't work for me.

I currently drive my speakers just fine with a Blue Circle CS, McAlister PP65 (10 less than PP75), and a Rogue Atlas (it was too cheap to pass up and the McAlister needed serious fixing).  I use a McAlister PL 12 and also a Singlepower MPXE Slam SE as head/preamps (I use 6SN7GTs in the SP as outputs and have plenty of gain).  I have a rack from Solid-Tech. See the pic.  I use AN Lexus ICs and Speaker cables and BC power cables.  I have a BC power filter as well.  Oh, I have an Arcam 192T CDP.

I plan to keep the McAlister, as it sounds lovely, but i worry about the reliability.  When I get the Quicksilver (which one?) I plan to sell the Rogue and the BC and get a new, slightly bigger 100 Wpc BC Hybrid integrated that's is in the design stages.

Can a 25Wpc mini mite work for me, or should i get the Mid-mono?

I can't decide for the life of me.  Maybe you know something I don't.  I have heard both amps, but I am now at home in Denmark and it's not possible.

Help me decide.  Anything goes.

Thanks

rpf

LS3/5As and their ilk need power. I'd go with the Mid-Monos.

As much as I like the Mini's, I agree with rpf.... I think you'll be happier with the Mid-Mono amps. Especially after using the Atlas.
