Bryston 9BSST & SP1.7
« on: 10 Aug 2007, 04:50 pm »
Hi guys, I need help with this

These are what I use
Power: Bryston 9BSST
Pro/Pre: Bryston Sp1.7
DVD Player: Denon 3910

Speaker:
Front: Dynaudio Contour 1.3
Center: Revel C32
Rear: Dynaudio 52SE
Sub: Rel B3

RCA Cables:
5.1 Input: Nordost Solar Wind (denon to SP1.7)
RCA: MIT Shotgun S3 (from SP1.7 to 9BSST)
Digital Cable: Transparent Reference (denon to SP1.7)
Speaker Cable: MIT AVT 1 (for Center) & Transparent Plus (for Front)

My problem is no matter I used 6.1 byPass or Stereo, the sound is NOT quite right, Dull, imaging is thin and like on top of each other (as if no dimension) and alot of delay (even the distance and delay setup already adjusted).

Anyone can advise me or give some sugesstion whether I made something wrong?.

Thanks

Regards,
JAL

Hi Jal,

Sound stage is usually a function of the speakers and their placement. If your using 2 channel bypass that eliminates all the digital circuitry and delays etc.

So listen in 2 channel Bypass Stereo and if you still get poor sound try repositioning the speakers. Also make sure none of the drivers (tweeters) are blown. Short of that maybe try another stereo preamp to replace the SP1.7 and see if things improve.

Hopefully we can work backwards from the speakers to try and find the problem for you.

Hi James,

Thanks for your help.

So based on what you are saying, the 2 ch bypass will NOT have the digital cicuitry and delay and the 6ch Bypass has delay and digital circuitry? If this is the case, then how we listen 5ch SACD or DVD-A which makes the sound not right, does it?

Thanks again for your assistance, james

JAL

HI Jal,

No the 5.1 analog pass-through does not have any digital circuitry either but your player has all kinds of settings in it's menu which could be affecting the 5.1 analog output from the player.

Keep it simple and listen to 2-channel analog stereo.

Hi James,

Just have time to respond it now due to illness.

I changed the setting e.g. delay & distance on my DVD which I didn't do last time. Just run direct without any digital circuitry. Now, the sound is much better than before.

Thanks again for your advice and love your products. Does Bryston have Any plan to implement the new format e.g. Dolby Digital-HD and DTS-HD for the new BLu ray or HD-DVD players?

Yes as soon as the chips become available for small manufacturers we wil look at the new AUDIO formats. We have no plans for a DVD player.
