Hi Jack,
I am pondering a Clari-T amp for my Tannoys/EV12trxb's. I have a Promitheus TVC preamp...I know they dont recommend 2 passive components together...is this combo workeable?
upgrades it has are the volume control, auricaps, black gates, bigger battery (24 hours on a charge) and upgraded RCA jacks and speaker binding posts.
I'm sure the TVC will work out, even if the Clari-T has its own passive volume attenuator. However, I can always remove the volume control in the Clari-T for you (and install a new front panel without a hole in the center where the volume control used to be

) if you wanted to go this route.
If the volume control on the Clari-T is maxed out, perhaps that will do the same thing.
It would be close if it wasn't for the input impedance of the amp with the volume control in the circuit. If the volume control is 10k, that pretty much the input impedance of that Clari-T... and I'm not sure how well the TVC will do with driving 10k. If the volume control was removed and the input jacks of the Clari-T connected directly to the input of the amp, the input impedance would be much higher (greater than 100k) and when using a passive like a TVC, this is a more ideal situation.
Best regards,
Vinnie
