FS: One of a Kind Dodd Reference Preamp

This is an amazing piece of gear. Comes with 2 Electro Harmonix 6SN7 tubes for the outer positions and 2 vintage Sylvania 6SN7 GT's for the inner positions. Tubing rolling in the outer sockets doesn't make much difference. Here are the options, making the Reference Pre so special. Sonicap Platinum bypass caps, 5 Bybee purifiers--3 in the power supply and 2 on the analog outs--and 4 Herbie's Peek tube dampers. Sonicaps and Bybees were all installed by Gary Dodd. Easily bested the Modwright, Manley, and Van Alstine preamps I owned previously. Why am I selling it? Because I don't have the room for the preamp and the power supply. Preamp is in solid 8/10 condition w/ original packaging and manual.

Retail was around $6000, looking for $2000. Will consider trades for a high quality one box preamp.

PM for pics. Local pickup, or audition, in Seattle, WA.

Yea, I had one of those here myself. That is a really good pre-amp, and a steal at that price. I can't believe somebody hasn't jumped all over it already.

Here is a pic of mine:

That's the power supply on the lower rack.

I'd consider a partial trade for a Django type TVC Preamp, a Placette RVC, or a pair of EVS Attenuators.

To someone just starting 2 channel audio, never trying 2 channel amps or tubes at all yet...what makes a "pre amp" qualified to cost 2-6K!?

My speakers are only 2K.  I imagine I should be using this "pre amp" for 10K speakers or greater?   I need an amp to complete this scenario...

Not thread crapping, just trying to understand.  I'm inthe market for a pre-amp/amp, and could be interested if I simply knew more....

Thanks,
ELmO

I could tell you far more than I could write in this thread. Drop me a call some time and I'll chat with you about this stuff. Or you can shoot me a number and a time to call (after my normal business hours) and I'll call you to chat.
