Repelling teenagers
« on: 31 Jul 2007, 08:18 pm »
Some teenagers tend to congregate noisily near our house after midnight, flicking cigarette butts in our yard, clinking beer bottles, and disturbing our sleep.  I was thinking of trying to repel them with high-frequency sounds, as some stores have done.  I found a cheap, robust piezo horn tweeter (53-805) in the MCM catalogue.  I could just record some 18 - 20 kHz test tones on a CD, but I wondered if there's a simple oscillator circuit that I could build to feed an old receiver to drive the tweeter, thus just flipping a switch instead of playing a CD when needed.

Hey!

Interesting! You know at the right frequency maybe you could also use the system as a mosquito repellent. :jester:

Take care,

This might, or might not be, a better solution.  http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=170844

Play classical music at audible levels.   This has been used in a number of cases in public areas where the dredges of society cause problems.

It works.... chases off anyone without the brain power to appreciate it.

Any classical works, but Wagner at high volume, operas, etc. are great youth repellents

Go down and party with them...that should scare them off after a short while..no teenager wants to be caught hanging with an adult...

But who knows ... mebbe there's a black-clad female "emo" down there who thinks you're just like the dad she never had and so would like to partake of the horizontal tango?  :thumb:

What about acting like an adult and asking them to choose another local?  In my experience aggressive behavior often elicits an aggressive response.  If that doesn't work, call the police.  If that doesn't work, then try your mosquito repellent idea.

You are on the right track with the high pitched noise. There is already an automatic system made, called of course, "The Mesquito".

I suppose you could make your own with the tweeter and a motion sensor.

And now available in the US:

I agree with this approach...or you had better prepare an egg repellent with your mosquito repellent.
