Scenic Towns
« on: 31 Jul 2007, 09:58 am »
Some years ago I lived in a town called Trondheim, Norway.
It is a really beautiful town.
Alas, I don't have the pictures from when I lived there, my cam back then got stolen.
But I came across a really nice blog today, so these pictures are not taken by me.
But they do show Trondheim in all her splendor!!!
http://www.vgb.no/26000/perma/228282   ... Here is the link to some 99 pictures.

http://www.trondheim.com/content.ap?thisId=1117618767 (Some grouped by place)

As you see it is a town with a river criss crossing the entire place, almost like Venice!
It's got small bars, jukeboxes, Taverns, many bridges spanning the channel, Churches, several parks, and a town market place /city center that IMHO you only find an equal to, in Rome. And there is an old Archbishop place to just beside Nidarosdomen
the 1000 year old church. They have a medieval festival there to! You can see people on the blog dressed in 1000 year old costumes!!! Nice!
In the center of the city you have a large statue you will see in the link. It is Olav Tryggvason , the king that founded Trondheim in 997.
So Trondheim it is then, one of Norway's best looking towns!

I guess I should add some photo's of key locations..
Just outside of the town in the sea, some 2000 yards from the docs is this rather large Castle/fortress spanning an entire small island. It's Munkholmen... a 900 years old place...

This immense castle has an entire little village inside!

Inside the castle itself is a gunpowder chamber, were they used to store the gunpowder used for battle.
It has a completely spherical shape, like a ball cut in half.
The acoustics inside that chamber is IMMENSE!!!

I have sung in that chamber with a friend, We sung "Amazing grace" !!!
It brings tears in my eyes just writing this!!! What a musical moment!!!
We sort of stayed behind the rest of the group following the guide, and waited until they had all gone...

AHHH! what an experience!!!!  :singing:
It is a MUST DO if you visit this little castle!

Beautiful.

I loved traveling through Europe (it was a long while ago now). Didn't make it to Norway, the closest I got was Gotenburg.
