Hope you all have a great time this weekend!  Unfortunately, I can't be there due to family obligations and I'm down here in LA until June 2.  Imagine, an audio show right in the very city where I live, and I'll be somewhere else! Arrrrggghhh!

Jeff,

Looking forward to your panel discussion on Music Servers this weekend at VSAC.  What time / day are you scheduled to conduct it?  It didn't see it noted on the website.

Thanks,
Ken

Saturday at 3:30...

I didn't get much info either, so I'm going to do my best to make it work!

See you there!

Wasn't there on Sunday, just Saturday.
Not that much to see.  We walked through the whole thing in about 20 min.....

That's too bad.  Still sorry I missed it.

WOW!
20 mminutes.

I was there, you'd be hard pressed to sit in each room & listen to just one song
and still get out in 20 minutes...I'm impressed.

But if you 've been there & done that, many times before....... I can see how
you could breeze thru in 20 minutes

It was a small show & it wasn't all that well attended...unlike past VSAC events.

But nice music was still present.

As I'm always looking for stuff to review, there wasn't much
there that would have fallen under that qualification.

When I walked by the ModWright room, the door was locked,
so they were probably at lunch or something.  Besides, Dan
lives up the street from me and whatever he had that I don't
already own, I can just go pick up!

Same with Cardas...

I sincerely hope that they had enough attendance and that the
vendors did well enough that it can continue and grow, but
there just weren't any people there. It was pretty easy to
breeze through.

I was in town visiting my parents, and found the time to visit for about 1.5 hours on Sunday.  The rooms that stood out were (in no particular order):  Dixie Bottlehead room (with the big horns), Doc B's room, George Wright's room (mostly because it was affordable gear, not statement gear) and Caucasian Blackplate's setup (the Russian SET amp + Klipsch).  The three biggest differences/disappointments I noticed compared to VSAC 2003 were:

  • The increasing tyranny of smooth jazz
  • The relative lack of craftsman gear
  • The lack of a swapmeet

Luckily, the Dixies let me put on 'Iron Man' and Caucasian Blackplate was spinning some dance music and Sonic Youth, so it wasn't all bad.

I would agree, I was hoping to see a lot more DIY gear there
but when we stopped in, there was almost nothing...

That one guys amplifier with all the parts on the 4x8 sheet
of plywood was pretty trippy though!

Wife acceptance factor -10!

Probably big on the fry the kid, dog or cat factor too...

You're talking about in the Lowther room?  That was actually a breadboard of the Dixie amp they used upstairs (in the nice wooden tower chassis) with the ginormous horns.  I was chatting with the Lowther gent and we decided that the name for the amp should be the 'Danger Amp' since it contained:

1)  High voltage
2)  PCBs (in the NOS oil caps)
3)  Heavy metals (in the mercury rectifiers)
4)  Radioactive isotopes (thoriated tungsten)

All it needed was some botulism and it would have been perfect!
