Bluesman John Campbell's "Howlin' Mercy"

Pulled this CD out of the rack and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd forgotten just how good Campbell was: he covers "When the Levee Breaks" (popularized by Led Zeppelin) and Tom Waits' "Down in the Hole," and he certainly holds his own (if not winning the contest).  It's hard to imagine someone doing the "gruff-voiced singer" thing better than Waits, but  Campbell almost makes Waits sound like Pavarotti by comparison.

A flashback for the old-timers:

John Campbell was once poster boy for Audioquest. I couldn't find the exact pic AQ used, but it was similar to his "One Believer" cover:

Seems like his guitar was featured prominently in the AQ ads, but it had that same stare that'd make Sonny Liston whimper.
