Budget RCA Plugs
« on: 16 Jul 2007, 08:25 pm »
I need a pair of long interconnects to connect my odyssey khartago monos and the candela. I am placing the amps next to the speakers, and the audio stand housing other components are further away in the room. Since i need over 25ft of interconnect, i decided to buy abt 50' canare L-2T2S (~$20)... now i'm looking to buy couple of pairs of RCA plugs.

Anyone know where i can find some good ones? I don't want to splurge on them ... something in the range of < $3 per plug is perfect. I came across dayton rca plugs for around $14/4 ... are these any good? Also does it make any sonic difference if i go with crimp or solder type plugs?

Thanks!

Switchcraft makes nice all metal plugs with solder lugs. They are about $3 each.

I use these, from parts express

Nice cheap plugs.  Stan Warren turned me on to them, and he knows where to get inexpensive, but good stuff.

Looks to be a WBT knock off, but is it any good?
The neutrik RCA look quite good and inexpensive, but there doesn't seem to be any color coding on it.

I second the Nutrix recommendation. I feel you will notice more sonic differences in the wire/solder/insulation than the connector. Use nail polish or red/blace electrical tape for marking.

I have had quite decent results with these Eichmann style plugs on the cheap, they are silver plated and have a hollow centre pin with a minimalist neutral ring for the return instead of the Eichmanns small pin.
If you subscribe to the Eichmann bullet plug principal of no large lumps of metal on the end of your interconnects these are a very cheap alternative
