Chad,

Hell, I've got more than a lionfish... that business that I've just started, that's taking up all of my time, it's an aquarium shop. I've just spent the last few hours plumbing part of a 1000 gallon reef system. I don't have a Lionfish just yet, but I could easily get you one...

Cheers,

Ivan

Ivan,

I wish you all the best with the new enterprise.

When I moved here last year, I noticed that there was nowhere nearby that really catered to the salt water crowd.  You should let me know where you're operating.  I'd love to come by and check things out. You know, I'm suffering so much withdrawal not having a tank, I'd even volunteer to help if you needed a hand.  Strange how plumbing a 1000g reef system can sound attractive when you don't HAVE to do it...

Chad,

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm afraid that my shop is a bit too far away from A2 to be of much use to you. It is located in Adrian (40 min SW). The best place for saltwater fish in our area is the Fish Doctors in Ypsilanti (2703 Washtenaw Ave). My shop is a franchise of the Ypsi store. If you happen to go to the Ypsi shop, ask for Jeremy (exotic fish peddler and piano tuner) and tell him that I sent you... also, ask him about his Planar 3 & Polks.

I'm pretty much done with the plumbing on the monster reef, but I'll still need some help adding the 2000 pounds of sand & 1000 pounds of rock to finish the sucker... so, whenever you have some free time...

Kidding aside, If you would like to hear my system, and have a sunday evening to spare, just let me know... I have a hard working man's hankering for drink and revelry.

Cheers,

Ivan

I'm located in Troy...my system's still relatively young as I'm only 25, but I'm running Dynaudio Contour S1.4's, a Velodyne DD-12 and a receiver right now as I have some DIY projects in the works.  (Pass Aleph 30, 2 chip amps, Pass Pearl phono)

Maybe I'll be able to meet some people in the future, but I'll be traveling a lot come October (I'm a narrator at auto shows).

The group who was around a few years ago (pre AudioCircle) met Sunday afternoons.  We had maybe 15 different guys and they were busy too, so not all would make every meeting (me being a prime example, but mainly due to the drive involved).

Honestly when the group gets to be more than, say 5, it can turn from a serious listening session into a social event (which is  too).

Someone here (who is closer to A2) needs to take charge and not let this good idea go by the wayside.

Hi everyone,

I am a new member in a group informally known as the Southern Michigan Audio Club (SMAC) that meets every month at somebody's house in the metro Detroit area. I understand that this group has been meeting for about 15 months without a break, which means that the group needs volunteers to host meetings for it to be successful. The one meeting I have attended so far, we had about 15-20 people show up, which, as JLM said, makes the event more of a social gathering. But it is a lot of fun and you get to talk audio with like-minded folks.

In any case, the July meet is on July 28 at my house in Ann Arbor. If you are interested, please send me a PM with your email addresses. I will forward them to Mr. Jeff Mathers, the gentleman who manages a small mailing list for the group. He will add your emails to the list, and also send you the meeting notice.

Thanks

Ashok

I am part of the HEMI group (Home Theater Enthusiast of Michigan) and we have fairly regular movie nights or day long HT meets.  Typically well organized with guests, giveaways, lots of food, etc.  52 folks attended my event in January.

Based on that I am experienced in hosting large groups and am by day, a facilitator of large innovation events, so this is right up my alley.  Maybe I can get into the cycle and pick up an event in late summer, early fall.

I'm going to be in Brighton (detroit suburb) the third week of August.  My in-laws live there, so we go to visit them about once a year.

Stop by Josh!  Should we have a mini meet then?

I will certainly try.  I am going to be helping my inlaws on their rental renovations (since they helped with us) so I am not sure how much free time I will have.   Working vacations suck.

I'm in Warren!

I went to AK 2007 and didnt see anyone there I knew. I think that show will keep growing over time.

There isnt alot of high end audio in this area from what I have noticed and I have been into this hardcore for well over 10 years.

Chad, are you still buying the beer?  Wink2

Can you guys believe almost 6 months have gone by since we talked of some of us getting together and making rounds to each other's homes for a listen, and we still have not made it happen.  :duh:

Let's not let the guy's from New York see this thread, they would certainly be ashamed of us Michigan audiophiles.  :o

A couple of you live very close to me, we should be able to do two houses in one night.

Roll call please......  :drums:

I'm in the SW corner of MI  :(  and have three kids.  But! if the timing was right I'd make a road trip.  Missed Pete's last year.
I am planning on attending AK2008 and I suggest everyone ware an AudioCircle shirt so we can find each other.  If you don't got one, get one.  I missed many people from AC last year.

I live in Troy.

I know I plan on attending AK fest for the 3rd time.   :thumb:

I don't have an AC shirt.  Where can I get one?  I would like to be able to meet some other people that I have corresponded with online.

I don't know which day I will be able to attend.

My system has been in a state of change most of the last year so I really couldn't have had people over.  Hopefully things will change (by staying the same) this new year!

I'm due to have a little GTG.  I'll try to get my mind wrapped around a target date. :drums:  :banana piano:

I've got some more work to do in the room with adding diffusion and some more bass trapping.

I'm in NE Indiana (does that count?) about a 2 1/2 hour drive to Canton.  I went to Pete's HEMI GTG last year and really had a great time.  Might be able make it depending on dates and schedules at home.
