IEC adaptor for DVD players with figure 8/2-pin plug?

Does anyone know of a cheaper source for these things? Want to be able to use a good power cord with my DVD player (not so much to improve it but so it doesn't radiate EMI/RFI through its crappy stock power cord) but $19 seems like a lot to pay for a simple adaptor!

Hi Jay, I paid $39 for my cryoed Icecube adapter, twice what this new adapter`s gong for but I really like what this little sucker does so I don`t have a problem with the cost. And because it`s been cryoed along with the PC I`m using, I`d still chose it over the $19 knock-off. Regards, Robin

Why not have it modified to be an actual IEC plug in the player. That would probably cost about $50 to have someone do it.... However, if you can do it yourself, it'll be less than $10 in parts. Just a suggestion.

Some of these 2 prong plugs in digital units are part of an actual circuitboard make it impossible to take it out. That`s the way my Motorola satellite receiver is anways as I wanted to do just that. But when I got in there, I saw that it would be impossible to mess with the 2 prong plug. Regards, Robin

Thanks for the suggestions! The $5 non-cryo fits the bill for me as I just want to fit a shielded power cord (Bolder Type 1) to my DVD player. I've contacted them to check how much it would cost to ship 2 of them to Hong Kong via regular air mail.

I went to a store in HK yesterday and they had never heard of this adaptor! It would be better to find it locally. I'm sure these darn things are made in China anyway!

Not sure why it is so expensive to ship to the U.S. but I got a quote of CAN$9 to ship 2 of the IEC adaptors by regular Canada Post air mail. Perhaps you can email them and check if they can ship to the US for less than $16 (CAN $, I believe).

I got my adaptors less than a week after I placed my order. Very fast shipment and delivery, considering I am half a world away.

The adaptor fitted perfectly the figure 8 jack of my Toshiba 2109 dvd player. The Bolder Type 1 power cord fit the the other end of the adaptor perfectly.

I am very glad to now be using a premium power cord with my Toshiba! The picture seems noticeably smoother and more film like! I find the dialog easier to understand as well. The Bolder Type 1 is shielded (the generic stock cable was not) and so now I have the confidence that my Toshiba is not broadcasting tons of RFI/EMI from its power cord and polluting the rest of my system. Its all good.

Now that I think of it, this little Toshiba is benefiting from a lot of power products... Type 1 power cord, balanced power, plus double bybees in the Nitro power cord feeding the balanced power supply.

ps it might be helpful for me as i just bought a marantz cd4000 to use with my pt gear. the tent clock is something i'm also considering to help elevate this cheap cdp into a great transport.

By the way, I have heard that putting in a high precision crystal into the existing crystal can get most/all the benefit of putting in a new clock circuit, if the stock circuit is good.

I know of place in Hong Kong (Wan Chai 298 Computer Centre) where you can get those non-audiophile grade adaptor at US$3 only.

I have one, in case you wanna try give me a buzz.

I also know of a place in North Point where you can get those audiophile grade one.

Now that`s a novel idea,, a power cord with that figure 8 termination! Why the hell hasn`t one of these cable manufaturers come up with one to circumevent these damn adapter?

Our new Spinal Cord is now shipping at only $139 for a 6 foot or less length. I would make a C8 style two prong cord for the same price if I could just find the plug!! Anyone with information on where I can find this plug can have a Spinal Cord at half price!!

LAT International makes a figure 8 terminated power cord--the AC-2.

Thanks for the tip! I'll let you know if I need more. I have 2 now that I ordered from the place in Canada. Cost for 2 including shipping to HK came out to US$15, clearly more expensive than going to Wanchai but not too too bad.

My big project now is selling my Cary cd player to make room for a modded Philips 963SA.
