Using a record clamp with the Longhorn
« on: 10 Jul 2007, 10:55 pm »
I know it's amazing that I'm posting a new thread for the second time in one day but, I am surfing eBay and came across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200126726282&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:us

Seems feasible and the price is not a deterant, would make an interesting ....
Well what do you guys think?

As long as the Longhorn (no pun intended) doesn't slam into the clamp, you should be fine. If it does, ditch the clamp in favor of the Longhorn. Frank has repeatedly stated that the benefits of the longhorn far outweigh any benefit of the clamp. Others seem to agree.

The clamp sold on ebay would be just fine....what you have to look out for are the clamps that cover almost the entire label...the LH will slam intro these large diameter pucks at the end of each side of play.

The puck you are looking at should be perfect with the LH though.  Perfect as in a you won't be running to save the stylus at the end of each side, not that it works or improves LP playback.    the small diam will let the stylus go to the end of the grooves without issue looks like.

I emailed the seller:

"Are you the manufacturer/machinist of this clamp/adapter? What kind of effect have you experienced with it as a clamp? Have you compared it to any conventional clamps? "

 He replied:

"Yes I made a dozen of these clamps(they take about 3 hrs eack to machine(1/2 of them went to friends who have a TT) It works as well as me Mitchell clamp on my thorens 295. I have about 2k into my table and and run all top of the line psb speakers and carver/b&k equipment. For $25 bux these are a steal."

I bought one. :D
