8.02 Power amps
« on: 10 Jul 2007, 07:44 pm »
I'm having a little trouble folowing the model numbers.  I have an opportunity to buy a pair of 8.02 amps and I can't find the model on the website.  The 8.5 is the upgraded version correct?  Which is now upgradeable to version 2.  Do I have this right?  Would I refer to the 8.5 for future upgrade costs?

Hi,
Reference 8, 8.5, 9, and 9SE are model numbers.  The .02 refers to a circuit board revision that happened in 2005 which we made minor changes and to distinct the differences, we name the updated circuit .02.  The small increment denotes it being a very minor change.

Ref 8 does not share the bigger chassis as in the current model Ref 8.5, 9, and 9SE, so Ref 8.0 (as well as 8.02) cannot be upgraded to V2 status.   In most cases, to original purchaser of Ref 8.0 and 8.0x we provide a generous trade-in value towards the 8.5/9 series.

We have no intention to provide V2 and other future upgrades/updates to the Reference 8.0x series.

Ref 8.0 and 8.02 look like this:

Ref 8.5, 9, and SE look like this:

Casey is making the current official statement but I have also mentioned about V2 support for Ref 8 in public.
The contradiction arise because we're considering V2 support for Ref 8 and I let the word out (oops). Officially we're not providing V2 for Ref 8 today but stay tune for a definite announcement (one way or another) in 2 months time.

Excellent thanks that totally clears that up.  It sounds like it may be a better bet to start with 8.5's and upgrade from there.

Not yet, but we are looking at using the smaller amp module used by MCH series for the Ref 8.
We're also considering offering 50 pairs of Ref 8V2 as a limited edition model.

After almost two months from the last post, I was arguing if you have some news about the possible upgrade of 8.02 to v2
Thanks
