Modded Elpac?
« on: 4 Jul 2007, 12:50 pm »
Just recieved my first SB3 and am very pleased. I had previously picked up WM220 Elpac and disabled the 12v section and added proper plug. I noticed good results but cant help but wonder what sending the unit to Bolder would accomplish. $125 a good investment or just be happy? Anyone experience the difference between the two?

You'll find that the the difference between a stock Elpac and a modded one are very subtle.
I guess it all depends on your audio system.

Thanks for the reply.  As I suspected the results might be very subtle. I am only running entry level electronics so the money might be best spent else where. Thanks

Charlie has  the ELPAC WM-075-1950. He has compared the modded ELPAC WM-075-1950 to the stock one. He has not compared the WM-220 (stock or modded) to the WM-075-1950 , as far as I know.

The WM-220 is a very good PS for the money. I do feel the mods improve it, but I am a bit biased

I also find the the differences in power supplies are more audible with a modded SB than with a stock one.

Wayne thanks for the reply, glad to know Charlie's experience was a different model. I may keep the mod on my short list based on your comments.
