I am writing this from outside the the Apple Store in the Southpark Mall in Charlotte...I got here just before 6pm when the line of iPhone buyers was first let in. More on that in another topic called "iPhone Frenzy".

I found a nice comfortable leather chair when everyone gathereed around the doors at 6pm. Plugged in my Inspiron 8100 (is it 7 years old?) and booted up to Windows 2000. My D-Link network card immediately connected at 300Mbps! THis is the maximum for draft-N wireless, the actual connection says 117Mbps, not too shabby! This means of course that the Apple store has a nicely configured open wireless access point with draft-N specification (802.11b, a, g, now n).

I got on the web and the first thing I see is that D-Link has been the first to pass with WiFi Alliance's testing to be certified as forever Wireless N compliant. And the router and card are the ones I have purchased! So that is sweet. As you may recall, I got the router on a crazy Circuit City sale a few months ago (December?) for $109. Got the wireless PC card for $69 I think a few months later.

Also the range on this D-Link stuff is amazing - I am assuming Apple is using an Apple router like the Airport Extreme - I am about 30 yards outside the store, not a torture test but I am currently getting 130Mbps...
