WTB: Von Schweikert VR4 Gen II or SR MK1
« on: 23 Jun 2007, 06:21 pm »
Hello,

Hopefully someone here can help me find a good deal on some speakers that the owner is willing to ship (I would pay for shipping of course).

I was checking out Audiogon, Videogon for some good prices on some old Von schweikert's and I don't really understand the prices there - it is like people want new MSRP on speakers they've used for 5 plus years (pretty sure that doesn't work in the used car market). I saw a pretty good deal on some VR 4 Gen II's but he already got a deposit on them. Maybe these people paid MSRP or more when they bought them so they don't feel their prices are unreasonable - hard to figure out why they post them so high - most have been there for quite a while.

Ideally I'd get some VR4 Gen II's to match my current ones or some VR 4 SR MK1 or 2's.

I bought my VR4 Gen II's for $2k brand new at least 8 years ago at a place in Costa Mesa and could have bout them new for $2500 at a rediculously high priced place near Bel Air so I think anything over $1500 for the Gen II's would be overpriced for something that has been used for nearly a decade.   I realize the LISTED for $4K in 1998 but who pays list on anything and don't most AV components lose a lot of value after a decade?

I agree that the market sets the price.   A few weeks ago someone did have a special edition pair for only 1450 but I noticed the sale too late and missed the opportunity.   I can only find one pair on sale right now and they've been for sale for a long time - the seller keeps dropping them every couple of weeks so I figure if I can be patient, in about a month he'll have them down to 1400 as no one seems interested at his high price.  Since they aren't a special edition like the ones that went for $1450, I think he'll have a much harder time selling them.
