Where to use these Lundahl 1527XL transformers

Well, I bought a pair for another project (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=40543.0), and didn't use them.  (They are pricey little components.)

Here's the data sheet

So I'm wondering where else I might use them.  I do have a Scott Nixon tube dac with parts upgrades.  It's in a larger chassis, so there would be enough room for the transformers in that.

You have lots of choices from using in source components to input in preamp, either 1:1 or splitting (eg. RCA > XLR).  They are low winding ratios (1:1 or 1:2) and meant for gen purpose so they can be configured lots of ways.  How 'bout you tell us some area where you might use them and we tell you if it'll work, or gear you have that you'd consider using them in?

Just be aware that the cores are small, so you must keep DC out of the transformer.  But there are many ways around this if your specific application doesn't already (i.e. parafeed, using a blocking cap).

Hi Josh,

Well, here's the thing... I don't really understand what these transformers can do to improve sound quality.  I get that they're good for 1) Isolation. 2) Impedance matching.  3) Splitting signals.  But in terms of applications, I'm not clear how they can make things sound better.  My thought is that if I can use them in the output stage of my tube DAC, I'd use them there.  (Some sort of isolation between DAC and preamp?)

I'm interested in anywhere in which I could use them--CD/DAC/Preamp/Power Amp--such that the sound quality could be improved.

Well I'd think you could use it in your Dac, but I'd have to see a schematic of what you were intending.  Its probably best to just ask Kevin Carter on the K&K forum as he is the expert on this.  He too will probably need to see your schematic or at least have a good description of the circuit.

oh in terms of how it can makes things better, well, I don't know personally what exactly it will do for your specific system/circuit.  However, it will do the things you said, providing a more idealized load, galvanically isolating grounds (a good think imo) and can be used for phase splitting.   This usually results in the said circuit running with lower distortion.
