By all means check out a Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou's...you won't forget it.  Has nothing to do with audio, just a fascinating lunch.   Its downtown Rochester.   

According to David Belles of Power Modules the area is known for Red Hots..small hot dog like delicasies.  I knew the area was big on Buffalo Wings, but supposedly it was the proliferation of Red Hots, and the sauces that go with, that ultimately led to buffalo wings.   somehow honey mustard dressing is tied into that, but now i'm just getting into social commentary.

Speaking of dogs.....you can probably still get "white" hots in rochester.  White hot dogs, pretty damn tasty too.

Having gone to school just outside of Rochester, I consumed many, many Garbage plates at Nick's.

However, you aren't really getting the proper Nick's experience unless you are there late at night.  The crowd and atmosphere is a key part of the experience as the food.

goob, mi, zy - Thanks for the gastro tip. Not into dogs normally, but you've piqued my interest - first time I've ever heard dogs described as "delicacies". And I will definitely check out Nick's for the Garbage plate (do they actually serve it on a garbage can lid? that would be cool). Burrrp! (sorry)

Its probably best to watch them make a Garbage plate before ordering!!    the name sais it all really.

When i landed in Rochester & was picking up a rental car I asked 'what is there to do around here?'   the Alamo guy quickly responded "Go to Canada for fun, and stop by Nick Tahou's for lunch'


i'd bet the late night action is pretty wild there....

Nick Tahou's sounds like an experience. They have a website, aptly named http://www.garbageplate.com/ 
Sort of reminds me of the Varsity Drive In in Atlanta near Georgia Tech.

FYI Rochester - trip sucked (worked) except for drinking and music.
Best night spot for music, beer, food, music, beer: Dinosaur BBQ.
Best evening spot to sit and drink and stare (at the mini-gorged river): Triphammer Grill.
Biggest surprise: big waterfall at the High Falls (duh) area (Triphammer Grill). Amazing to have such a large waterfall (60' high x 100' wide?) right downtown.
Biggest let down: the dirty, abandoned, depressed, empty city. Reminds me of a mini Detroit without the sparkle and glitz (tee-hee). They roll the streets up by 6:00pm. Also, Nick's was closed on Sunday, the only day I could go there - drat!

Sounds like you got the flavor of the city alright!   it is depressing to say the least.   While visiting, and driving to Nick Tahou's, we stopped at a red light.  some dude on the corner opened his jacket and flashed a few dozen gold chains, and asked us if wanted any.  We were 25 feet away, in a car on the street.   like a timewarp to 1985 instantaneously occurred.

its a good thing you 'missed out' on NT's, you coulda been in for a rude suprise on the plane.
